250 tire size info and add a leaf question!

i have a 2001 250sd crew cab, it currently has the 235-85-16 tires on 16x7 rims, i would like to go to the 285-75-16 , will they fit with out a lift or leveling kit and not rub, also is there any drawbacks of using a add a leaf instead of the whole spring pack? i hear some comments about alot of squeaking, would a better off road shock in the front help on the front end leveling issue, any help on these questions i would appreaciate it thanks!

285's are fine. Most folks get 295's with no rubbing and 305's will rub slightly on the inner fender liner under a full turn with a bump. But even then it only rubs the plastic, nothing big.

285's are and easy fit. Pics are in my gallery of 305's with no lift or level.

Using an add-a-leaf setup tends to stiffen the ride a lot. IMO...I would not recommend if you can help it.

Regarding a better shock to help the leveling issue question: NO...not to my knowledge. Shocks are for damping not raising the suspension. Also just thinking about it...if you did find shocks that would raise the suspension...they would probably give a very harsh ride. Just my .02 here...

Note: If you do go with larger tires, then you will want to recal the speedo.
