Thumbs down my truck caught fire and burned down !

Hello, just want to share some info and get some feed back for anyone with a 03 f-250 6L
I bought my truck 40 days ago (aprox) and well last Monday we took the kids to the fire dept for Halloween and on the way there the driver side head lamp was blinking on & off. did not think to much about it, anyway it went out and the thought well bulb is bad.. and later that night my wife took the truck to work (9pm) and I noticed that the head light was on.. anyway the next day ( 6am) my wife was head home and about 200ft from the house her truck caught fire, she pulled into the drive way and sprayed it with water. then called me on the cell... I rush home and seen that the fire was out(so we thought) and start to call ins co, ford dealer, etc when I looked out the window to see the truck up in flames !!! call 911 and went out and put the hose on it(with no luck) and the truck burned to the ground... and it looked like it start behind driver head lamp area. has any one heard of this before ??? I call my dealer and they said all recall have been done on my truck and he said I could have had 2 mile on it and it burned on the street in front of them that it not there problem, I should call the insurance company !@ can you believe that !!

will try to post pictures !email me for pics

Did you have high wattage aftermarket light bulbs without an upgraded harness? That is most likely the cause if the lamp was flickering on and off. I've seen some harnesses get fried because of this. I'm going to leave it to the insurance company and the lawyers to fault who ever is resposible.

As to posting pictures... they must first be uploaded to a server. You can upload to this site by going through your gallery.

Sounds like a wiring harness fried. Was it just the one headlight that came on or both, though?

Sorry to hear about the truck.

The dealer would rather have the Insurance folks handle it because they figure that an investigation will be performed. I'd be surprised if Ford was not interested in it as well at some point, though.

In any event, if the dealer fiddles with it, they might mess up the investigation. Nobody wants to ruffle the feathers for the lawyers.

Sounds like wires chaffing or an amperage overload for the circuit. Yes, we're curious as to whether there were lighting modifications to the truck.

For future reference, don't put water on an Electrical fire! Don't tell anyone that you noticed the light blinking on an off. They could twist it and say that you noticed a problem, yet didn't take it to a dealership/technician/mechanic to get the situation resolved.

Oh, and I'm glad that everyone is healthy. Last year my Corvette did the same, (ruptured fuel line was the cause), While I was driving 65mph on the freeway. Burst in to flames. Midnight, T-tops off. I got out with a small burn on my leg.

wow! that is crazy. glad no one was in it when it caught fire. i know i would have pooed my pants and broke down crying if i saw my truck on fire, or damaged, none the less. plus, the insurance company not helping, or FMC not getting involved is alot worse. our 2004 6.0L left head light does not work, and they are trying to blame the snow plow wiring as the culprit. plus our 2000 dually V-10 intermittenly has the headlight on and off, i believe both could lead to the same thing in the future. just wondering, did the flames get to the fuel tank? i am guessing so, because the fuel lines had to be on fire at the front of the truck.

It's not the fuel that was the problem, I think this was the plastic. Glad No one was hurt.
