I don't have a spare one but they are not all to hard to rebuild. If you look in my gallery you can see some pics of my rebuild.

I just finished rebuilding mine. It cost me about $150 for the kit (brgings and seals) but as soon as you add forks or gears the cost climbs. Also, most of the guts out of the electric shift t-cases are the same as the manual ones.

Agreed. My research has led me to believe that the major difference between the manual and the electronic versions is the casing. Most of the innards are interchangable.

If you look closely the cases are exactly the same with just the holes drilled out for the right lever / or electric parts. I've got my spare manual case sitting here now. Just need to pressure wash it out cause it's full of crud. Rebuilding the T-case is fairly straight ahead as there are no really identical pieces. The snap rings are the same. The only trouble that I had was the split ring on the input from the transmission. There are some nice external snap ring pliers that are needle nosed with grippers (like on the inside of slip-joint pliers) that work really great here. I ended up playing around with a pair of picks for 20 minutes the first time. lol If you run into any snags give a shout back here. Good luck.

Don,

Any chance you might know a good source for a manual 1356? I am dumping the electronic one ASAP but would like to get my hands on either a good used or reman. manual unit. I would also need the shift linkage/lever, boot etc. I know a couple of places but figured I'd ask someone who has obviously done the swap or at least knows both T-cases fairly well.

Hmm, I got lucky because my truck came with the manual one. I have seen some on ebay but just like everything else you would be taking your chances. Most shops want a $grand or so for one. Your best bet would probably be to get one from the junk yard and rebuild it yourself, very simple rebuild Also you could get the boot and shift rod off the junk truck.

After rebuilding mine, there is no way that I would buy a reman unit. The unit is straight ahead to tear apart and rebuild. My Haynes had a good explanation and the local tranny shop was helpful. As for getting a good used one ... looks like you have several to choose from. Let me know how installing the linkages goes for you though. That's the only thing I thought might be a pita when swapping to a manual t-case. Thanks.

Yeah, I was a littel concerned about it myself until I pulled the carpet back in mine and realized the hole in the floor for the shift linkage and boot are already there just need to pull the plate covering the hole.
