Your truck is not worth that much!

Why do some people think that their used 02-03 7.3's are worth $30-$33k?
Don't they know that a new one is around that price? Just because they added an exhuast and a chip and raised it 4 inch, they think the truck is worth that much?

I live in CA and some of the used asking prices are rediculous....
They even used the word "firm". I'm like, have they heard of kbb.com?

I feel the same way up here in MT. People selling straight 73-79 Fords think that just because the engine was rebuilt 30K ago and it has a new clutch/windshield/tires/3 inch lift that it's worth $6,000. Sorry, pal, this is Montana and your pickup will never be worth as much as you have invested in it. I know....I tried selling mine (which in my mind was CHERRY) for $5700. I learned the hard way that if you invest money in a truck, it means diddly squat. I ended up giving it away. I thought it was unfair at the time, but now I know better.

well i am not sure about where youlive but wherei am at the diesel trucks are big around here, i bout my truck one year ago and it is an 02, about a few months after i had bought it all the dealer ships had a big head to head war for selling trucks, and i went to check itout and i couldnt belive it, they had an 01 there for sale not even close to the shape mine was in (i think it was a bush truck) and they were asking 5000 more than i paid for mine, taxes included. i figured i should turn around and sell mine and then go buy another from where i bought it before. anyways after that long story what i am trying to say is that if they are in demand people will pay, and they will pay if the trucks HAVE been looked after. my .02

I have a white 01 PSD 4X4 CC LB Lariet. I bought it new June 30 01 for $36,666.66 plus tax to total of $38,500.00 Not a lot of mods. 4" exhaust and a Hypertech Power Programmer III and some Wheels and gauges. You could not buy it from me for $40,000.00. Not because of the mods but because of the truck. I could not replace it for that!! It has been a very good truck in fact a great truck. Over 195,700 miles I've had to replace the starter and 2 batteries, that's it. Plain and simple its worth that much to me!! I know I will get another 200,000 miles without a problem. How do I know this, over many years and many trucks you learn which one are good and which ones are bad!! You keep the good ones!! You get rid of the bad ones!!

[B]In ref to your comment. I am a car dealer of 18years and deal in these trucks everyday. I just put 30k into and 02 F350 crew psd/loaded 4x4 with 55k miles and will sell it used for 33500.00(firm)...I also know that invoice is 41700 on an 05 F350 4x4 crew psd and MSRP is 47-48k... I watch these trucks at auto auction every week bring way over book. KBB means nothing when pricing these trucks. As I tell my salesmen" A vehicle is worth what we sell it for, not what the book price is"

Just a thought but the 02's and early 03's may be commanding a higher dollar because they were the last of the 7.3's.
There is a lot of people I know (me included) that don't want anything to do with the 6.0.

I would not even consider selling my 2002 F250 7.3psd for 33K or even more. It gets used every day and has been trouble free. I have got it the way I like it and could never replace it for that. I'm sure a good number of other owners feel the same way about their rigs. It is supply and demand so throw the book out the window They aren't making any more of them so if you find an owner willing to sell a good one be prepaired to pay up. It is a seller's market.

Yeh I can see where you guys are coming from. I bought my PSD a month ago a 2003 250 RC with one off the last 7.3 produced. Oct 2002 build. Had 17400 miles. The truck had just came in the day before. I was lookin for a gas model but then this truck was there and I knew I was going to buy it. Oh I paid for it believe me..But that truck would have been gone before the day was out. So far I love it. Runs great. I was talking to the salesman later and he said somebody had left a deposit on it in case I didnt take it. The best part is I can sell this truck very easy if I want to and I still wont lose to much money. If there is a truck that holds there resale value better I want to see it. There isnt any. This truck always will.

03 truck

I bought my 03 last October, and it to was one of the last 7.3's built. It had 57k on it and the dealer had it priced high. I knew that if I wanted this particular truck (which I did), I was going to have to bite the bullet and give in to them. I traded...hum, I mean, gave them a very clean 99 SD with the V-10. There excuse was, no one wants a gas hog V-10. You know how it is, you NEVER have anything to trade that someone wants!

Anyway my persisence to getting this truck was that it was owned by the same person that had owned my 02. Drove the 02 for a year and determined that the owner took good care of his trucks and that I couldn't go wrong getting his 03. They are an exact pair of twins. If you care to, see my gallery.

Just paid 22K for a 2000 PSD Excursion with 21K miles on the clock. Has a bucket full of Banks upgrades and a fair share of minor issues that took me a week to iron out. I feel I stole it, even at 5 yrs old its a long term investment. Just got my Banks power elbow, boss hoss chip, 6-gun, Westin Ultimate bull bar, Westin 3" full leangth nerf bars and stainless bug guard yesterday. I still ahve to get the power elbow and the 6-gun installed, everything else is on her now. I love this thing! With the Banks stuff that was on it, I now have every Banks performance part made for the 7.3 installed on my 7.3 and a Flowmaster American Thunder 4" ex system on it. Next step will be a 4" lift instead of the V code springs that are on it.

I have a guy that is supposed to call me tonight about buying my 00 F-350 7.3. He was told don't even bother to call if he is looking to spend any less than $26,000 because I don't have time for anything less.
