I know recently visiting the new truck sales manager at the dealer I use, he told me the other day that for the most part with the manufacture incentives they have going on, the used market is a tuff market. Except for the diesel truck market and more importantly the PSD market. Said these vehicles demand a premium.

I know I have a 95 PSD CC 4WD white truck that was loaded when I ordered the truck new. She has 132K on her now and runs better now than when she was new, with all the mods I have on her. Not one single thing on this truck not work like its suppose too either...

I started using Ford diesel trucks in 84 with some of the first ones they brough out and have had many since then, none of the others no where as near the truck this 10 year old 95' has been. Its been one of those really good trucks you always here or read about...

The point I am getting to here is to be able to recognize the solid good truck when they come around and make the right choice there and then. It would cost me almost 50K to replace my truck with new now with the market where it is on them. Then I would be starting over and not sure of how really solid of a truck I just got even though its new. Make any sense???

Now with that all said, I will say that if I had to sell my truck right now, knowing what I have for as shape and condition of truck she is, I would not sell her for 16,000. Not bragging either
guys, I just would be foolish to take less for my truck with just how good a truck this one is and the shape its in... I have seen many of the newer model trucks that I would not swap even for too...

Now I am not saying I would love a new truck, I would love a new 6.0 I think the new trucks are the stuff, just like this 95 was when I ordered it in 94'... I just know its going to be some what a risk ordering a new truck or trading for a newer truck. One that I am really not going to give the one I have now away to get the new or newer. Sure everything I own is for sale LOL, always...Just don't expect me to give it away.

With what a really good solid used PSD brings to the table here guys, they will demand the very best price, if not that you can spend the bucks for a new 05' and see if that truck will fit your order. I know I faced this very thing several years ago when I thought about buying a new truck. Thats been two years ago now and I still have my 95' LOL.
you hit the nail on the head with this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and to the original poster of this thread " westladog" you obviously need to wait to find your "right" truck and maybe the deal of the century. those are hard to find but do happen on occasion. i flew to texas from florida to get my obs and drove back and would do it again 2x for what i paid. but like i said patience. and i wouldn't sell mine for less than 2x what i paid.

Thanks guys for not chewing me out! This site is great. In other sites, I would have been chewed already.
I do apologize for those harsh comments though. That was not right on my part.

Based on what you guys saying, I think I may get the one mint condition 7.3 Lariat with only 90k for $23500.

Polaris721...the dealer paid you $19k for your 99. If your truck was in good condition, did he ask $23k to sell it as a starting figure?

I gave $23k for a 02 that had 90,000 miles on it in August of 03.
Might add that the truck was only 17 months old and smelled like new inside. It's the same as new to me, just don't look at the odometer!

I didn't find out what he sold it for. It was in great shape, but I bought a new 04 350 with the 6.0 the next day so I was just happy to sell with no hassle. I have not had good luck trying to sell my own, everyone asked what's wrong with it. Like there has to be something wrong if you are selling it.

Polaris721....been there, done that....I mean trying to sell private. In my earlier post, I mentioned that I traded or gave away a 99 V-10 for my 03. I tried for 3 months and everybody wanted to steal it and I just wouldn't give in. I figured if somebody is going to steal it, it just as well be the dealer....he can answer for any problems that would arise. I didn't know of anything wrong with it at the time, just it was a gas hog V-10. The 2 things that I didn't care for was it was black in color (an #itch to keep clean) and the seats were way tooooooo soft!

You all can talk them up good, but I have 1997 7.3 psd f-250 hd ext cab full size box truck with less than 90,000miles on it, it is up for sale to the first one who will give me enough to finish the payments off, the tranny went in it, and I'm ****ed, I'm going to buy an old chevt van, at least it won't let me down as much as this 30,000 dollar piece of **** has.

Flash why did the tranny go. There is usually a reason and most of the time it's operator related. An old chevy van will do the same thing if you dont treat it right.

First of all, this truck has been handled with nothing but the best care, it has only towed a trailer 2 or 3 times, then not heavy, This is the first truck that I've owned that lets me down every year and always costs me a fortune for parts to fix it, so I am selling it, It blue books for around 17,000 i think, and thats what I would like out of it, It may be worth more though, I don't know

I shopped for 3 months before I bought my '00 250 PSD XLT auto. Drove 130 miles to Alabama and paid $20K out the door with 74K miles on it. Dealers in the Atlanta area were atleast 5K over that for the same truck. Would not sell it for anything. Cost me too much to replace it anyway.

Cool part was that I was able to contact the last owner and find out what kind of life it lived. It was mainly used for local transportation and towed a one horse trailer 5 times a year and a 5th wheel camper twice a year. Can't beat that!!

1997 F350 crew cab, ordered new with camper top and ranch hand bumper: $26,000.00 - @ 114K, has only needed a clutch and glow plug relay. Did the Tymar intake, plan to do by-pass oil filter setup next, gauges downpipe/exhaust, MAYBE a chip later. I wouldn't even consider selling, I'm going for 500K plus.

1976 Chevy 5/8 ton van, 350 4bbl: was with Dad whe he bought it new for $3600.00, inherited it in 1991 w/ only 49K, now has 147K and motor is starting to get a little tired. I've only replaced the radiator, water pump and power steering pump, a/c is shot. Good and solid, makes a good alternate / work vehicle. I wouldn't sell it either. Probbably will rebuild engine.

Buying/selling vehicles is a pain if you ask me (unless you're trading classic muscle cars - that's a diiferent story!). Buy quality and MAINTAIN it properly and it will last as long as you want. There's REAL value for your money. (did I mention MAINTAINANCE?)

I have to laugh at some of the folks around my town who trade thier $45K+ diesel trucks every year or two for new ones. Why even bother with the extra expense over a gasser if you're just driving the kids to school?? The ones who drive Hummers are even funnier, especially when you pull up next to 'em and the underside is PRISTINE 'cuz it never leaves the pavement! hahahahhaha!!!! More money than sense....

PSD's

I bought my 99 F350 CC DRW 7.3 in march of 2003. paid $21000 for it w/50,000 miles from a dodge dealer in snellville,ga and love everything about it.It's one of the best trucks I've ever owned. PSD's are the best, and this coming from a diehard bowtie person. I still won't buy a chevy unless they put PSD's in them.

just my .02
