Hey guys. Ford says its the electric shift module and that its gonna cost about 600 to replace. Anybody have this part number i was gonna try and call Five Star Ford ive ordered parts for my car from them before and install it myself. Is there anything to the install besides screwing it to the truck and plugging it in?

Thanks for all the help

Well if it's the module do the following from Chilton #26664; 7-21: Remove right side cowl kick pad (at the passenger side, vinyl panel from floor to bottom of dash where glove box is): Remove the 2 module retaining screws, lift out the module and unplug the wiring: Installation is the reverse of removal. There you go.

I just replaced the 4x4 control module in my '93 f-150 for the exact same problem. I got the replacement part off of ebay. The same module was put in many different ford vehicles and years. Personally I got a module from a 94 explorer. Worked like a charm and my 4x4 is back in business, and only cost me $80, and that's because I was aggressive in bidding for it, I've seen it sell for a lot less.

Ok I'm new here, joined for just this same type of problem. I have a 95 f 150 with 5.0 engine. A while back I had the truck in 4x4 and everything was working fine. My wife was using the truck, I was out of town, and she said it would'nt go into 4wd.
When I got back and looked into it I would push the button on the dash and would hear the module click from under the dash but it still wouldn't go into 4wd. the 4x4 light on the dash is always on. So would this be a sensor or the module?

Do you have Automatic or Warn type hubs? When you used 4WD did you make sure you were out of 4WD by backing up 10' or so to disengage the hubs and internals? If the module is reacting, the sensor may think it is still in 4WD.

I have manual hubs, don't know about the backing up part as my wife was the last one to drive it before the problem but I would guess that she didn't .

This thread brings to mind EXACTLY why my last truck wasn't a 4x4. I was always suspicious about auto anything. I was told by 2 dealers that "OH no, it's never a problem". BS! All I wanted was manual hubs and a simple gear lever to go between 2 and 4 wheel drive. Couldn't get it, and they would not even begin to acknowledge that there were reliability issues with this system.

Not wanting to upgrade to a '250 / '350 I stuck with the 2 wheel drive '150 and a set of tire chains. I have no regrets and always made it home. And left over money to boot.

I will never believe that a push button control over this function will ever approach the reliability or ruggedness of a simple transfer case and manual locking hubs. I don't know anybody that hasn't had problems with this pushbutton / automatic gobblygook. Per Murphy, it always fails when you really really need it the most. C'mon guys, who wants to be out under the hood fiddling with relays, shift modules or under the truck looking for bad servos in 10 degree temperatures in a blizzard with 40 knot winds from the northwest?

There, I said it. Grumpy Old Phart speaks.

Ok guys, this problems bigger (at least for now) than that electronic shift module. I installed the new module about 30 min. ago. I start the truck and then attempted to shift into 4x4. Well the relay in the module clicked and i felt the shift. So then i tried to take it out of 4x4 and nothing happened. The 4x4 light stays on and yea nothing happens.

Bad to worse

So i drove it in 4x4 and somethings wrong. It seems like its not quite all the way in 4x4. The front wheels have power but when you give it gas and let off in drive the truck slows down suddenly and doesnt coast. Kind of if u were driving with the parking break on. Also when crusing down the road at say 10 mph the truck jumps. Somethigs really not right here guys please help.

Change your t-case fliud. Check the drained fliud for foreign matter or metal. Double check your manual hubs. Put the truck on jackstands and observe operation of driveline closely. If you do not see any abnormality, find a flat field you can drive on. Start by trying to disengage the 4WD and get back to basic 2WD, hubs unlocked. You may need to back rather rapidly 10' to 20' to free everything up. Your t-case may have been in a bind from operation not in 4WD/not out of 4WD. Once you have determined that you are completely in 2WD. Drive for a while and let everything get back to square one. Go back to the level field where you can attempt to select 4WD and try the operation. Advise us.

Speaking of hubs. Ok i put the truck on jack stands. I started it and put it into drive and then reverse. Everything looks fine except the front pass side wheel. Seems somethings wrong w/ that hub. All others spin freely when in gear on the stands but it does not. It will spin if i give it a bit of a push but then stops when i quit helping it. Whats wrong w/ this hub and how do i free it up. Also do they have sensors? could this be why i cant shift back to 2 wheel.
