4spd to 5spd Swap

I have an 85 F250 4WD with a 460, Bw T-19 and 1345 Transfer case. I interested in swapping in a zf 5spd to replace the 4spd as it is making a lot of noise. What is involved in this swap?

Should be a bolt in swap since you should already have the hydro clutch, but i would grab the crossmember and driveshaft (if its the same cad config.) and swap everything in, just be sure to get one from a 4x4.

You'll have to figure out the slave, ZFs have concentric slaves, whereas the 4spds are external.

Tranny Swap

I am in the process of replacing/rebuilding my T18 tranny and it was mentioned the ZF five speed would work. (1986 F150 4x4 with 302)
Well yes the bell housing bolts right up. An that's it.

I would love a five speed overdrive BUT, as mentioned previously, you need the crossmember support, shorter drive shaft and a change around to the slave valve for the clutch.

I looked into the cost (used) of all these parts and just the cost of my rebuilt T18 was cheaper than all these parts. Plus I still had to buy a rebuilt ZF five speed (hens's teeth to find up here) but I found one $2100 Cdn. Total cost for the upgrade was $3,320 and I had to install it myself.
Rebuilt the T18 was $410
Guess which one I am doing. The T18 is on the floor right now ready to go in.
