Is the paint code listed on the VIN identifier in glove box or firewall?

code 37 indicates coral Red for 1953 I believe

Can anyone tell me what colors were available for a 1953 Mercury M100 or where I can find this information? Were they the same as Ford?

 

COLOR code stamped on the 2nd line of the Rating Plate.

20 = India Black / 22 = Yosemite Green / 37 = Coral Flame / 38 = Superior Blue Metallic / 40 = Glenwood Grey / 43 = Tahiti Tan

Bill, Thanks for the information. I want to paint my truck a color that was available in 1953 but not necessarily the original color. It has been a challenge finding information as the glove box door tag as well as the firewall tag are missing.
