Edge Module Review and MPG?

Recently installed the latest version of the Edge/Attitude in my 04 6L. Had a few questions for Edge users. Which settings are you running at and why? I really like the low boost feature, but is this killing my gas mileage, or does it help it because you don't have to step on it so hard to going for normal driving ? Any thoughts PSD?

This latest version(1.63 I think) is supposed to have great shifting- which was my biggest fear- but so far under normal driving it shifts perfect like stock. The couple of times that I put my foot in it a bit, the shifting was a little erratic, but Edge customer service assured me it would be fine after a learning period.

Mini review so far- the display is awsome( put it wherever you want on dash and it looks good)
-Change settings on the fly ( fun to feel exactly what each setting does as you drive)
-low boost feature eliminates any turbo lag
-shifting is perfect under light load, erratic under heavy load

We'll see if the heavy load shifting improves as Edge claims(only 75 miles on so far so there may be lots of tranny learning still to do) and I'll report back on any mileage improvements at the different levels.

Thanks for the great site and help so far.

I really investigated these when I was going after a tuner/module... and the shifting was never there when I researched back in Jan of this year...

Hope yours works out !
IIRC, have heard the best thing to do with those is disconnect both batteries over night and then go thru the EXACT "learning" cycle they suggest...

Has great power, but if it still falls on it's face between the 2 to 3 shift... MANY can pass you while it's deciding what to do

The shifting is still getting better on mine at the 400 mile mark. As JD says, the 3-4 is still a little funny, but it is getting progressively better too. I think in another 100 miles it will be shifting quite decently and with stability.

You are dead on about the low boost thing. It has NO lag now; Edge did a great job with that feature.

As for gas mileage, I have no clue what to tell you there Ive been lighting the tires from any stop with no cop...but the overhead meter is still showing around 11, so its not too horrid...

PSD- the customer service guy did say that it takes about 500 miles to complete learning and said the shifting on this version after that
should be perfect. We'll see.

I suppose you run around on the 5/5 setting?

PS - EGTs don't seem to be a concern, at least while not towing anything yet. I've only hit about 900 max in level three. Thats another good thing I forgot to mention previously- the auto backdown feature if your egts get to high is a awsome idea.

Keep ya posted as miles increase.

You must have a post-turbo EGT gauge...on setting 5, it will bounce the 1450 limit I set with no problem at all...

As for the shifting, I'd say 500 miles is about right. I am happy to report that mine is shifting nearly perfectly now

Every once in a while, ill disable the backdown and just see how fast she'll run. It peaks at about 1500 degrees even with no backdown...won't hurt anything unless it is sustained.

This is a fairly high temp though, considering I have 4 inch pipes going straight back with no cat and a straight through muffler

I would NOT wanna disable the backdown at level 5 with stock exhaust...

I have had mine since it was out. My first version did not have the (defuel on shifting). And I am sure that didn’t help my trans. The new version seems much smarter. I also didn’t give it the proper break in period and beat the heck out of it. Probably why after a year it’s in the shop for Trans repair. But the performance is much better then anything i have seen or driven yet. I have race everything and talked/raced to other 6.0 guys with other boxes(bully dog, quad, predator) and this creates more tq. And over all power IMO.
I have both the predator and the edge so I was able to do a very good comparison. I will have to get the dyno done to prove my words but my seat of the pants dyno meter works very well.

i have the edge also and have had it on my truck for about 6000 miles. The shifts clear up after about 400-500 miles. The performance on this thing is like anything else on the road. I took my truck to the dyno down @ Garmon's Diesel in Mcdonough Ga and got 390 hp to the wheels AND 755 ft pounds of torque @ the wheels. This is the only thing i have done to the truck. I did take it down to the track this spring and ran a 14.12 @ 98(topped out) with a full load of fuel, mirrors out and tailgate up.

My pyro is pre turbo. When I was hitting 940 it was only for short bursts on level 3. I'm sure if I let her run for more than a few seconds it would get much hotter. Thats about all I normally keep my foot in it for anyway- just to give the guy in the civic with a park bench bolted on the back a bit of an eye opener.

Still trying to figure out what settings will give best economy under normal easy driving. I've read that higher and lower are better. No concensus. Diesel is expensive up here in Canada!

I am going to install a 4 inch kit that pulls the cat. I am currently using ams oil gold series for diesels that alow longer change intervals. Right now I am going 10000 miles on every oil change.
