Changing wheels....

I have a 00' F-350 Crew Cab 4X4 Dually and want to swap out my 16" wheels for 18" wheels and tires.

My question is this. I am wanting to buy factory wheels but I am concerned about the speedometer and tripmeter as well as the little milage computer and how to adjust them when the change is made. Is this necessary and if so how can they be re-calibrated?

Thanks,
Tripp

Changing wheels....

I have a 2000 F-250 CC Lariat package. I swapped the 16" rims and tiny tires out for 16.5" wheels and 35" tires. It has affect my Speedometer, Odometer, and Trip meter. I took my truck to the shop to have them re-calibrate everything, they told me they could not, they said I needed a new computer. right now when I go 69 MPH, I am actually going 75. If anyone has had this problem fixed, please let me know.

thanks

Murph

All you need to do is get your dealer to tap into the computer and reset the revolutions per mile setting to what ever your new tires are. The computer will only go as low as 600 or 601. The 35's may be lower but 601 will be better than nothing. It should cost around $45-65. There is an article somewhere over at www.ford-diesel.com that gives exact directions on how to do this. Many have printed it out and given it to the dealer so they would know how to do it.

Goto to motorhaven.autoanything.com or check out getting a hypertech programmer. You can modify the computer yourself for the larger tires as well as tweak the timing and remove the tach and top speed limiters. Getting an aftermarket chip is about the only way to get your speedo back, unless you do a gear swap, which would be the best choice to get your truck back to running like stock.
