Two more clickable thumbs: First is my socket on the second screw for the floor vent. Loosening the vacuun can and taking the vacuum lines off helps gain access.

The second thumb is a picture of the hole I made to inspect the blend door for proper operation. A little metal duct tape and it's as good as new when you are done.

This link has good videos of what to do: " F150 video "

Is it a blend door or am I in trouble?

I have a 99 Expedition that I bought two years ago. About two weeks ago it started blowing just heat. Then the Temp outside changed (Live in Michigan) and it got cooler outside, and the heat stopped now I just have cold air. I have climate control and went from hot to cold and saw what I think was part of the blend door turning( a little white shaft turning when I went from hot to cold) under the dash. My question is could it be a blend door or could it be a combination of a couple of things.

Go to "heatertreater.net" . It's an inexpensive fix and doesn't take too long to complete.

Big suggestion; if you have an Expy and want to see if the blend door works, cut the hole in the plenum. You can do this in very quickly as compaired to removing the center console and pulling the vent duct and blend motor off.

Deanjet,

Is it possible to resend those pictures you had in this message?

Those are some great comments.
I need to know if the blend door is my problem. My 2001 f550 will only blow air out at the windshield, top of the dashboard, ie defrost mode. I guess the blend door is to mix hot and cold air. I dont think thats working too well either.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I havent seen F550 or other Super Duty trucks with broken blend door issues. Usually there is a vacuum leak under the hood on those. Some of them have a water control valve that gets the hose knocked off by the oil changers and just needs to be put back on the valve. If you have 4x4 you could have a leak at the 4x4 switching valve or at one of the hubs. If you have diesel you may have an issue with the vacuum pump not working.
If you also have a blend door actuator going bad you may be experiencing a difficult to control temp in your second issue or you may just have low coolant or AC system issues. Description of the problem is a little vague there.

Thanks for the reply. I found a youtube video that may help. Maybe a cracked vaccum line from tthe engine department thru the fire wall. Thats more info than I had, so I will give it a check If I find out more, I will post it.

Do I have a similar problem?

I have a 99 Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4 with @120000 miles. It has the same symptoms of cold air in front and warm air from back.It also has the trip mileage indicator light goes out randomly, the left turn signal indicator goes out randomly, the lights on the heater/ac control panel have gone out and the a/c was on full blast with no control from the buttons. They seem to reset themselves when the truck is shut off and restarted. But a/c stays on.I can control the fan but not temperature. The overdrive disable is blinking continuously sometimes. The steering column was replaced at the Ford dealer sometime ago because of an attempted theft.I tried all the connectors behind the dash I could reach. What is the white plastic box behind the emergency brake? The connector was on but the whole unit felt loose. Is there a chassis or body control module where the dashboard, steering column, and heater-a/c controls would come together?

Ok I'm new and don't know how to start a new thread so this sounds kinda like the problem I'm having ill try to describe as best I can first the colder the outside temp the less hot the heat is secound u can tell a temp difference if u turn the heat from cold to hot but the kicker is on bold the fan blows real hard on hot it won't blow as hard like half speed seams if u get on highway it gets a lil warmer but not a whole lot I have flushed the heater core twice and changed thermostat and new coolant seams like truck don't like to get warm it only goes up about 1/3 of the way on temp gauge can't figure why the fan blows harder on cold seams odd to me also floor panel and defrost all switch as they should with the switch saw some posts were people saw the checked to see the blend door was opening and shouting all the way how was that done? Were would u cut the box behind the glove box? Or is there other ways to check it I'm in nc and its been getting down to the 20s in the am hard to carry the baby that cold with poor heat any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you need to address the temperature issue first. 1/3 of the way up the guage may be indicating that the engine temp is not warm enough, likely due to the need for a new thermostat. While you have that serviced have them check the coolant flow through your core.
