How much does a F350 weigh?

The specs (actually for a 2001, but should be close) seem to indicate that my 7.3L crew cab short box F350 should weigh around 6000 pounds. But, when I took it over a set of truck scales the other day, with myself, my son, and a toolbox in it, it weighed 7500 pounds, meaning the truck is around 7000 pounds. I am assuming the truck scales on the roadside are accurate, does my truck really weigh 7000 pounds or is it closer to 6000?

My truck is an F350 CrewCab 4X4, with a tool box in the bed. With full tanks of fuel, my truck weighs about 7300 lbs. That's without anyone inside. I suspect the specs you quoted were for a stripped down model without options.

Thanks, glad to get a confirmation on that.

yellow73bb-
Whereabouts in Oregon are you? Are you getting hammered with snow like the folks in Portland are? We've still got snow on the ground in the Seattle area from last Tuesday!!
That just doesn't happen here.

Somebody correct me here but I thought that the weights listed in the books/manuals was "dry" weight no fuel, oil, coolant etc. So actual weight would be different than stated.

That's real likely. I know they're much lower than actual.
Bryan- how did you get your weight up to 9k? How much does that bumper weigh?

I'm in Aloha (no joke, but sure doesn't feel like it now ). We are about 15 miles or so west of Portland. It's pretty cold, down around 20 degrees, (you midwest and east coast people don't laugh, that's COLD!) We had a bunch of snow on New years day, and are expected to get around 2-4 inches tonight, but it hasn't started yet. Many of the schools have already announced closures even though there's no snow yet.

My 2000 CC F350 4wd shorty Lariat consistently weighs in the 7500 lb range empty. That's bone stock except for a drop&lock ball hitch in the bed.

Mine is just a smidge over 8K with no one in it, full of fuel. Only weight adding mods would be my ball hitch (heavy 40,000 lb rated one), floor mats, and air fresheners.

the margin of saftey would be worth it with something that stout

As I am sure you are aware, the hitch itself is rated for 40,000#...as it stated in my previous post. Didn't know if you were being facetious or not... Anyways, yeah it's 40K rated, and is done locally here in Crescent City IL by a very creative little welding shop--this is of their own design. All that pokes through the bed is the ball, and the two eye bolts for the chains to attach to. Underneath the bed, from what I have been able to ascertain, is they took 2 pieces of 1.5" thick pieces of steel, sandwiched them together, and both bolted them throught the middle (where it can't be welded) and then welded all around the edges. The center is tapped for the ball to screw into, and small holes on each side of it tapped for the eyelets. This piece is then laid across the frame rails lengthways, and fastened to the frame. If you want to take out the ball--it is fitted with a molded nut around the base that you can unscrew with a pipe wrench or big crescent wrench in about 2 minutes. I haven't ever needed to turn the ball over yet, so I didn't see the need to spend 500+ to get the turnover ball hitch--I had the B&W ball in my truck before this and turned the ball over maybe 2 times in 4 years. Lots of guys around here have this kind of hitch put in their trucks, many of whom have 30-40 foot stock trailers they routinely pull loaded with cattle. (Very illegal, but largely left alone by the police.) Everyone that has one swears by it, including some guys who have told me they had broke certain other models they had bought that bolted in. I thought I would give it a try, so far so good anyways, and it only cost me a couple hundred bucks and an afternoon w/o my truck.

oh, i thought you were talking about a tagalong hitch. A gooseneck or 5th wheel i could see.
Im sure that hitch weights several hundred pounds the way you describe it.
