I drive my ol 76 everyday, 7-12 mpg with a 390 depending on how and where I drive it. After sitting in a field for 13 years and a really tough life it is a reliable dependable vehicle. Treat em right and they will do the same for you!

My 77 f150 4X4 gets driven almost everyday to school, work, the woods, whatever. I have a 400 and get about 8 to the gallon.

I drive my 1973 F250 everyday every where I go, I get weird looks and I get a lot of compliments from people who owned one of these trucks in the past or they come up to me to see if I'm really out of mind to drive something like that. But it runs good and I'm able to work on it when there's a problem and when i got it it just had a new paint job poorly done but it still looks good. I am one of two that drives one of these trucks to school. My father even has a 1974 f100 for a work truck. My truck gets around 15 miles to the gallon thanks to a four speed and a motorcraft two barrel carb, I wish it was 4wd though.

My '79 supercab towed my '02 Ram 2500 home from Colorado (1000mi) without breaking a sweat. The ram died of a clogged cat and left me on the shoulder of I-80 at 10:00pm.

I swapped the trucks around and drove back to MN without a single problem. The ford even pulled the trailer better than the dodge did plus I averaged 13-14mpg @60mph the entire trip back (351m/2V w/3.54s)!

I drive the dodge daily to keep the miles off the F-250. But the ford is always on stand-by (...not much faith in my dodge anymore).

Slederal,

I love hearing those stories. I am still new to driving mine and have not towed with it yet but I hope to have my own stories to share about why these are the best trucks ever made.

Thanks Iowahighboy,

That's a sharp crewcab you've got! The long wheelbase will obviously work to your advantage when you start pulling stuff around.

I've had a lot of trucks. new and old. While each has had it's advantages and disadvantages; I've always held the 73-79's in high regard.

Good luck!

My 79 F350 4x4 has its fourth engine and this time I went with an RV cam 4brl carb. I am running 35 in. BFGs muds with 3.54s front and rear and I am getting 12 to 16 mpgs. My 78 F250 Super Cab has over 200,000 miles on the stock 351m with stock carb. and np435 with 3.54s and 33s gets me about the same. My 78 E350 Pathfinder 4x4 van with a 460 and C6 give about 10 to 14 and 78 F150 4x4 with a stock 351 and 2brl and c6 gives about 14 to 16. I think its how you drive that matters the most.

i would say that my 2000 mustang GT convertible is my DD. its got a CAI, O/F X-pipe, 2 chamber flows, underdrive pulleys, and a 3.73 gear. but i do drive my truck atleast 4 or 5 times a week. really just depends on which one has more gas. I have driven the truck on a 200 mile rounds trip on the interstae and it did just fine.

My daily driver is a 77 F150 4x4 shortbox. It's got a 460 in it and gets around 8-10 mpg on a good day. Luckily my drive to work is only about 5 minutes long. Most days the fast idle is still on when I get there!
