Drive to clean message won't go away

Have a 2012 F250 with the 6.7 in it and 163000 miles.
I just had to put 2 new batteries in UT and almost immediatley i started to get the "drive to clean exhaust" message (which i have never gotten before) and the "cleaning exhaust" message alternating. I have driven it multiple times as described (30 mi uses for at least minutes) but message continues.
will unhooking batteries erase message or does this sound like something i need to go to dealer on? I also have the needs oil change message and today on the last drive the orange wrench appeared.
ideas?
Thanks in advance

Get codes before clearing any messages or lights. Proce3d from there.

Okay 2 codes:
p2033 exhaust gas temp sensor circuit high bank 1 sensor 2

P2479 exhaust gas temp out of range (bank 1 sensor 2)

So guessing it has a bad sensor?

Sounds like an egt sensor, but can you read live data to see the temps when the motor is cold?

Best way to see for certain without any real diagnostic tools

No access to be able to do that.
I will look for a sensor #2.
Any ideas where to find a part number

Good advice here... it's the first EGT sensor in the DPF but is sensor number 2, after the EGT1/4, the pre DPF sensor and the first out of 4 EGT sensors.

That sensor measures the temp of the SCR portion of the DPF... that section is usually always the hottest as it heats up the rest of the DPF during active regen.

It must be screwing up the ECM with the bad readings it's giving.

So its the first one on the exhaust coming from the engine? Assumed it would be yhe second as its number 2 out of 4?

It's the second EGT sensor in your pic you posted, EGT 1/2, which means Bank 1 Sensor 2... sorry I may have messed you when I said the first sensor in the DPF. Sensor 1/1 measures the exhaust temp coming into the DPF from the engine. And when I talk these sensors, I usually only say EGT1, EGT2, EGT3 and EGT4...

In the pic Scott posted, it's C3602 (whatever that means) EGT sensor 2...

From the coffee book in the Tech folder here...

Yup a scanner to read live data would really come in handy here.

But to gamble and replace EGT 2 is not too bad. Spray with PB Blaster a few times and give it a shot.

Of course have one on hand before.

Then of course you will need to clear the code upon completion.

The EGT sensors where not very reliable in the '11 - '12 trucks and I'm surprised they lasted this long. Might as well replace all 4 of them to prevent this problem from happening again.
