1966 F-600 Parts Needed

I have a '66 F-600 that needs either a transmission rebuild or a swap. It is tranny code L which is a Clark 2651-V1 or a 2653-V1.

Does anyone know where I can get parts for this? I have a local rebuild shop, but no parts access.

Alternately, is there a different tranny that can be swapped in? I've heard there may be one from Fuller, but any brand is fine.

I'd also like to get new brake shoes. Any ideas where I can find them? Once upon a time one could have brake shoes re-lined; anyone know a vendor for this?

LBNL, a rebuilt steering gearbox would be nice.

Thanks!

Welcome to FTE.

I show L could also be Dana (Spicer) model 6352-B for '66.

Check it for a label or casting numbers.

Maybe:

Ebay sellers have shoes, and various parts houses as well. You need to know the size you're looking for to start.

Thanks!

I'll crawl under the truck and see what I can find, tag-wise. Or other number.

The brake shoe size is very helpful!

The generic advice for steering boxes is two places:
RedHead in Seattle
and
Straight Ahead in San Jose

Casting number is 218018.

There is no tag on the transmission itself, but there is one on the PTO

So it looks like maybe the whole thing is a Dana/Spicer. Anyone know for sure?

PTO is Dana/Spicer, but that doesn't mean the transmission is.

I can't find that number. Spicer case casting numbers seem to start with "C".

What's wrong with the transmission? If it's hard to shift that could be the clutch.

I sympathize. My Clark 282V has no synchro action left for 3rd, and dbl-clutching this long-throw pedal gets old. Internal parts are still available for this trans, and I determined that I could buy the 3/4 Synchonizer Assy. & matching cup for a couple hundred, plus gaskets. R&R labor and parts cleaning, though . . . I'm getting kinda old to be hoisting 400 lb transmissions around in my driveway anymore, much less wrangling them up onto the workbench and scraping off 50 years of gunk before even starting to disassemble.

At least your PTO has numbers on its dataplate:

check your local face book market place for these transmissions .what engine do you have bolted to the transmission ? if you are not working the truck hard ,you might be able to swap in a 5000 series spicer.I see a spicer 6352 listed in Cambridge MN for $200

I've been looking at FBM for months, looking for a Clark 282V or 285V, and found ONE, at a scrapper 300 miles south, and he sent pics that look like it's been out in the weather for a good long while (and has only a rebuilder's data tag, not the original Clark tag). From a C600, looks like.

So, will a Clark 282 swap in place of what is claming to be a Clark 250? I see lots of references to 282s an 285s but nothin on the 250.

And, not to hijack, but will a 285V bolt in place of a 282V?
