New to the forum

I’ve waited too long to join this forum. In the past 7 years, I’ve acquired and rebuilt 4 bump side Fords. Love driving them all. This past month, I purchased a very nice 72 F-100 4x4 that has a 428 in it. The front differential is shot so I was going to replace that and have a nice dent side. Then I found and purchased a 72 F-250 that has been partially disabled. No front clip or motor and the cab and box are in tough shape. I want to put the F-100 body and the 428 on the F1250 chassis. What issues am I going to come across in this transfer?
The 100 has idiot light dash and the 250 has gauges. I want to have the gauges. Can I swap the two without problems?
I’d appreciate any input.

So is the F250 2x4 or 4x4? If the F250 is 4x4 then this is a little more complicated since they have a divorced transfer case. If its 2x4 then you need a different trans. These are just challenges and shouldn't be a big deal to change, just need to be aware. As for the gauges you should be good to go as the lights and gauges use the same sensors.

SAY WHAT
Gauges use different senders than the lights do.
Dont believe lookup a sender for the 150 truck and it will list with gauges OR with out gauges (lights).
It has always been this way.
But all you need to do is get senders, oil & temp for gauges and install them in the motor and the gauges should read right if they are good.

Paul, Thank you for the reply. Both chassis are 4x4. Both are 4 Speeds. I plan to use the running gear that is in the 250 chassis. To clarify, I want to put the cab, front clip and box from the 72 F-100 4x4 on the 72 F-250 4x4 chassis. Want to know if this will be an easy swap.

Dave G. Thank you for your response also. Ill get the correct senders and give it a go.

2X with the exception of the charging system light/gauge. OP can use the gauge cluster as long as he keeps the F250 wiring intact.

Agreed!

Back in my NAPA days we always got weird looks when we asked the customer if they needed a switch...or a sensor.

Which later became, "Do you mean the sending unit, or the sensor?"

The swap itself is not a huge task, now lifting the cab is not simple and takes a little effort. It really depends on what tools you have and your mechanical abilities you have. The biggest things I can suggest is take your time and get some help.

This is how I removed mine the first time.

And this is how i reinstalled it. The gantry crane is so much better.
