How do I get the accessory outlet to turn off ?

I want my accessory outlet or cigarette lighter outlet to turn off when I turn the switch off.

This is for my 98 Explorer and 96 B2300 for the use of a radar detector.

Thanks,
zoti

It will be easier to buy an under dash cigarette lighter receptacle, and wire it into the fuse box on a switched power source.

That or cut off the plug and wire it to a switched source. Or you could get a female adapter and wire it to a source. That way you could still unplug it.

I recommend running a wire from a switched (and fused) circuit up the A-pillar to the middle of the windshield with the same connector as your cigar lighter cord. Then hard-mount an aftermarket universal detector clamp. It's much more solid and convenient, and you can still use the original parts if you use the detector in another vehicle.
