Yes, so it's not only the dealer that can lie about it but also the owner. I assume that was your point?

Mine was that I see owners who say they have never had a shake of any kind from their front end, and are considering getting the replacement damper. Per the letter they would have to change their story to truly be eligible....although some dealers might change the story for them on the paper work.

Yes, that was my point. The dealer is not required to verify the condition, just report what the owner claims. I guess Ford is trying to make it as easy as possible for customers experiencing the problem and willing to accept that there will be some claims to replace perfectly good parts.

I'm not clear on why either but I just received a letter for this same CSP for the second time today. The wording has been rearranged a little but is mostly the same verbage. Warranty term and some dates have changed between the first and second letter. Like it's just an extension of the extension.

The service rep at my local dealership said they "redesigned the redesign". Mine is currently in to have the replacement installed, will report back with any shenanigans.

Service completed, they installed damper assembly KC3Z-3E651-G. No charge.

Later this week I am having the Baja Customs track bar installed to provide peace of mind for years to come.

So was this the second damper replaced under the CSP 20N04?

I believe the last revised damper part number was KC3Z-3E651-B

No, my truck still had the original damper installed until today. The technician's note said "weak steering damper", but probably just had to put something down.

I guess I'm still trying to understand, since the first 20N04 and this newest one say one time repair, if someone had theirs replaced already under the first version, if Ford would do it again.

When I replaced my original damper on my 2019, at around 9k miles it had obvious play in it when going in and out with it. The original also acted like a twin tube damper, I think the updated versions could be a mono tube damper, like the Bilstein. Anyone with the original on their 17-19 should take advantage of this or go aftermarket, the original is crap.

Fox stabilizers are rebuildable, about $15 for the kit, $12 in oil and a nitrogen charge.

Read the last paragraph. Three separate mailings, so they must be on mailing two.

I have 54K on my 19 F-450, looks like it is covered and I noticed it is starting to feel weak. I should wait until it hits 60K and have it replaced then good for at least another 40K until I need to spend money on it.

I realize this is an older thread but I received the Customer Satisfaction notice #20N04 in May of 2023. I had not experienced death wobble until Feb 9, 2024. I brought it in to Rivertown Ford in Columbus, GA today for that issue plus 2 other recalls. I am sensing a run-around from them. I called a little before 5 PM today for an update and I was told that they are “trying to diagnose the reason for replacing the steering damper”. (Paraphrasing here). My letter states that the dealer will not try to “recreate the problem or verify the issue.” I will talk to them tomorrow but any helpful tactics would be appreciated. The truck has been well maintained and has been an awesome vehicle until now.

Thanks in advance.

Remind them what your letter says.

Forget the dealer and your free stabilizer, that is only a bandaid until the truck is out of warranty so you quit coming back. Get your self a bilstien stabilizer (or equivalent) and a pmf track bar (or equivalent) and be sure all your tie rod ends are good and your problem will go away for good.

The truck is a 2017 and well out of warranty. I will talk to them tomorrow but my feeling is they will tell me some other components are worn and need to be replaced and that is the cause of my issue. Anything but fulfill the customer satisfaction program. Not planning on wasting too much effort on it.

The stabilizer they will put in is a Rancho and it works well enough in mine so far. I was surprised to see it wasn’t even repainted.

I had replaced mine with a Rancho after experiencing DW once. When I got the letter I put the stock unit back on and too it in. They replaced it with a Rancho. Now I have the one I bought in the garage since it has a lifetime warranty. I’ll install it if or when the one that’s on the truck fails.
