R&R Time
#76
The main usage of this truck is towing. Only time it will be in a race tune is when I want to leave my buddys house who owns a 6.7. I'd be silly to think a cclb drw truck will be fast. No plans to pull or race it, just the occasional hop on the highway quickly or pass the slower folks on the right side of the road.
I ran my 200/30 a year on stock, but switched out to the hd options so I can use the power and feel safer. I feel it is worth doing while the engine is on a stand.
Manton series 3 3/8 .095 are a great option. I have smith bros and they are good as well. Like Udsuth said above, RCD is a good company to deal with also.

Made a little progress last night.
got the valve covers off and started pulling injectors.
removed motor mounts and oil cooler to start prepping the block for paint while sending out the Injectors.
Has anyone heard about the “long lead” fix on number 8 injector?
1-7 were AD injectors. Number 8 is AE and has different color plug and a big LL on it.

some don't like this guy, because he uses a lot of cartoons and parables
but he puts out a lot of good info:
Clint @ Custom Works
This video explains the Injectors used in my ‘02 Excursion
at about 8:00 minutes he explains the codes that are OEM, the ‘AD’ code injector should be a Split Shot 10/140 cc injector and is in #2 thru #7 cylinders.
#8 cylinder injector is an ‘AE LL’ code, which means Long Lead to prevent idle cackle noise. Clint also uses it in #1 cylinder for the same reason, #1 & #8 are the furthest away from the HPOP and get slightly less fuel pressure.

This is all I needed to know. Clint is not as smart as he thinks he is.
The lack of competent 7.3 mechanics combined with idiots on yourtube will be the Swan Song for our favorite platform.
It’s bad enough there are a ton of stupid mods out there being SOLD because ‘it sounds like a good idea’ - even to people who honestly should understand science/physics better. Stuff like HPx and FRx are at the top of the list...
A friend in CA spent over $1000 fixing his 7.3’s ESOF system. In the long list of parts they threw at it was a brake switch - almost certainly what was wrong with it the whole time.
on edit: the #8 cylinder fires directly after #6 - which is directly upstream from the fuel supply. This was the justification for AE nonsense. The same thing does not happen at #1 cylinder. SMFH....

Little update to anyone who may be following. I have all the parts in my possession. Unfortunately, life has taken over and my engine is still on the stand.
Hoping early October to get back to it. At this point I just miss my truck. Wish the PSMD didnt get so out of control and just did the oil pan. In the meantime I am back in Vegas for work and getting a game plan together just to 100% ignore it when it comes time for working on the truck.
I did however find time to pick up a 1964 Ford Custome 500 (4 door) and a 1968 F100 from a friends uncle that I plan to get running again. Hoping to have my daughter help work on them and pick one for her first vehicle.
Cheers!
