Like the 10 speed with the 7.3 and 4.3 gears. Didn’t like the 10 speed with the 7.3 with the 3.55 gears.

The 3.55’s aren’t offered with gas engines in 2023.

10 speed with 6.7 and 3.31 gears on my 22. Overall I love it. There has been some random weird shifts, but that was typically when feathering the pedal at very slow speeds and wasn’t any cause for concern. The 10 speed is a big reason I wanted this truck though. I’d do it again. My temps are usually close to 200 or a little lower when driving unloaded. Even when loaded I’m only around 210 or so. But these are designed to run hotter, so these temps are normal. Based on threads found here, it seems most that reported issues were those that are paired with the 7.3’s. Some speculated that these transmissions were designed around the 6.7 and have been adapted for the 7.3…

Yeah, definitely some weird shifts even after 5k miles. When it was new it really did some funky stuff when learning. The 10 speed does a good job hiding the holes in the torque curve. I like it just not a custom to seeing the high temps

It is a heavy duty truck transmission. So, it's not going to be as smooth as a Lexus.

7.3 with 4.30's here. Doing fine. A lurch when shifting from 1st to 3rd when cold start high idle is on. Big improvement over the 6 speed as far as towing performance. I imagine that is especially true for a gas truck.

My 6.2 with the 6R100 was smoother though . . . .

They run those temps intentionally, it isn't a flaw just because it is different. How are those "high temps" when your engine runs the same? Recently researching on my friends '18 Cummins, the fan clutch does not even engage until 217*F, doesn't give a "hot" warning until coolant is over 240. All normal for modern emissions controlled vehicles.

I have about 47k on my '22 7.3 10 speed. Hard for me to fathom bothering to own a vehicle I only drove 1000 miles per year... I have not had any "problems" with my 10 speed and 99.9% will tell you the same. I do not like how it shifts a lot of the time but that is typical of an automatic, any automatic. Nothing wrong with it and I have towed heavy with it in the mountains and it has a season of snow plowing under its belt with no problems. Might have been an issue the first year but I see very few with issues after that. Not sure where the information suggesting there is an inherent problem comes from.

I hadn't heard this. I had a 2020 F250 XLT 7.3/3.55 and, though I didn't tow with it, it was a great combo. Tons of power to the wheels and better than expected MPG. I sold it it at ~7k due to high value so I could order my ideal truck. I, like many, hadn't thought about ordering and found that one on the lot. It was a great truck in every way.

My 2022 is a 350 King Ranch 7.3/4.30 also has about 7k now and the 10 speed in both trucks has been great!

I bought my 2022 F350 largely due to the 10spd vs. the Ram's 6spd. I read every post I could find and I was satisfied that problems were relatively rare, esp. by the time the 2022's were out. I'm happy with mine and towing performance couldn't be better. My advice would be to be wary placing too much stock in the odd issue posted; I'd bet that 99% of 10 spd owners don't have a problem and for every negative post there are a ton of satisfied owners.

I see the same type of thing brought up on every forum I'm a member on whether it's motorcycles, RV's, cars or trucks.

2 cents,
Dave

To me the 10 speed with it’s 3 overdrive gears (8, 9 and 10) are more useful with the 4.30’s. Apparently Ford is thinking the same thing.

Makes sense for the gassers. I was going to order a 7.3 and was definitely going to get the 4.30's.....also wanted the M275

I have a 2022 7.3 10 speed with 3.55 gears. 1731 miles so far and the last 1000 miles has had the slide in camper in the bed and a 18' trailer towing behind.
I love everything about this combination when towing and when empty.

coming from a f150 5.4 3 valve 4 speed with 3.55 gears this has been fantastic

I did talk to my friend who's is a Ford Technician at the dealership I purchased from and he says that the learning process is crucial to the 10 speed, also the programing doesn't like abnormal driving, meaning pedal on-off and he says that drivers trying to drive to avoid characteristic shifting is a real problem

he says put it in gear and drive. Me I drive stuff like I stole it and mine has been great

I have 82,215 miles on my '21' 7.3 3.73 and have not had one hickup yet with the transmission. It's been smooth shifting since day 1, no rough shifting, no slamming shifts just overall a nice experience so far.

I have had three of them now- amazing transmissions. Only had one in a 2021 chassis cab that had a recall once. - but no problems ever. Getting 20 MPG unloaded in my 450 on with it, and I would never look back.

26,000 miles on my '21 6.7, 3.31 gears. I came from a GMC with an Allison so definitely different. It's best when loaded (I tow a 11K toy hauler often) but empty it just feels like a heavy duty trans looking for something to do. Mine has only got better with miles. I used to have some odd noises and lurching/hunting but as the miles continue to tick by it just keeps getting better.

OP mentioned “everything Ive read is pretty negative so far”. I have seen scattered mentions but not a lot for the number out there and what they are put thru in some cases. Just ordered a 23 F250 7.3 with no reservations.

Aside, I do wonder if a transmission cooler may be helpful for those of us towing good size RV’s ?
