78 F250 Camper Special Factory rear bumper?
I have a question on my Camper Special truck I purchased. The rear bumper can slide out if you put a camper in the box, was this a factory Ford option? I have seen a few pictures of the same bumper . The truck is a 78 F250 Camper Special Lariat.

Looks like a standard Barden bumper. they were usually dealer installed since pickups had no standard equipment rear bumper in that era. you could order some bumpers from the factory but they were $2 more than dealer installed so most were dealer installed.
Most likely that bumper was made extendable by the owner. if it is factory I've never seen one like it.

It is interesting as I have seen some pictures of the same bumper on an old post and it was a camper special also. I think the one ford truck in the movie " Double Jeopardy" with Ashley Judd had the same style rear bumper. Would love to find a good factory rear chrome step bumper....but...

Most of the standard type bumpers were made by Fey including the most common silver rear step bumper you see most often. you can still buy generic ones in chrome that fit and look decent. it's not hard to tell they're not OEM though so I still prefer the originals.
The one you have was very common in the early 70's but the Fey became more popular in the mid 70's and almost always used in the late 70's. but anything was possible from the dealer.

Never seen or heard of factory chrome step bumpers before the 1980s models? Besides the car style, contour bumpers of course. Got pics??

Those are the correct Fey bumpers the factory used since at least 1975. but you could also buy them from the dealer as most people did. so in the chrome version it's hard to say unless the Marti report denotes it.
Either way it would be really nice to have one in mint condition. the generic ones are ok, but they don't fit like those do.
