Got the 400 up and running wanted to check it over before I pull it. Runs good and has oil pressure with no bad noises. On the plus side makes it much easier to move around.

Going to run the np435 from the 4x4 I know I have to use the balancer and starter from the 4x4. Are the flywheels interchangeable between 351 and 400? I will ordering a balancer for a 400 manual trans and have the 351 flywheel. Both engines have front sump oil pans. I don’t have a rear sump 4x4 oil pan. I think with the lift pan will clear front differential. It will just make a mess when changing oil. I will be on the the lookout for a 4x4 pan and pickup.

New timing chain resealed oil pan and rear main. Installed new freeze plugs and removed exhaust manifolds to fix broken bolts. Used welder to remove broken bolts from head.

I converted a '77 f250 2wd to 4wd back in 1996.
I removed the 400M (a mistake) and built up a 300 inline six-banger. (my mini-cummins-gasser). hahaha
The 300 is still going strong today, but it is still a 5.0 Liter.

I had to edit this comment after seeing your '79 chassis. A very nice setup for your cab.

The following below is for guys who are wishing to convert from 2wd to 4wd on a mid '70's pickup:
If you find a '75 or '76 F250 4x4 pickup donor, you can bolt-direct the front leaf spring crossmember to your 2wd frame rails.
I discovered this sweet nuance by mistake when I chose to graft the '76 pieces to my '77 2wd frame. The 2wd frames are factory punched to accept the earlier spring crossmember. Hit Score for a conversion.
Now, though, you must make a paper template of the factory bracket which was riveted to the frame, which supports the shackle , for locating your holes you will drill through the frame for attaching the donor bracket to your frame at rear of spring pack..

The above is only good if utilizing leaf springs. You may be using SuperDuty coils and radius arms.

Good job Pilgrim. LoL
You've put bunches of effort into what may just be a Keeper in the end.
I rebuilt a 400M 20-some years ago and did like the engine much better than the 300 six in another pickup.
I should have kept the '78 crewcab with 400M and sold the '77 crewcab running the 300 inline six banger.
When we look-back, the crystal ball is clear as a bell. But, looking forward the crystal ball is foggy. hahaha

There is no substitute for cubic inches for good grunt.

Good to see you are making great strides in Ford Progress.

you're gonna make a lot of guys jealous of your efforts. Looks brand new.

And, when you get this all assembled, it will be like driving a new pickup. Tight

Had to cut out trans access panel, floors are sold just some surface rust. Will clean them up and paint floor. Everything lined up great and bolted up perfectly.
