Just picked up this 66
Picked this up yesterday. Previous owner lost interest in it. Came with a rebuilt 390 .30 over, RV cam, rebuilt 3 on the tree, and a lot of parts like extra trim, windows, door pockets… all from a parts truck he has several years ago. I’m going to get it running, freshen up the interior a little bit keep the current patina look for now. Truck is very very solid.
I’ll be searching here for tips and things I need help on.
Should be fun!

Welcome to FTE! Looks like a pretty straight project.
Did you remove that warranty tag from the door? If not, you might want to check the frame stamp to see if it belongs to your truck. In the picture of your engine the frame in the background has a hole in the top flange. Wire brush the heck out of that top flange about 4 or 5 inches behind that hole. The VIN number is stamped into that top flange.
It looks like this, sometimes it can be difficult to make out.

There are a couple of things about the warranty plate versus how the truck appears that strikes me. Code 581 is Standard Cab and this appears in many ways to be a Custom Cab equipped truck. And the V8 on the hood as well as the engine, while not difficult to swap either, was originally a 240 6 cylinder.

@TA455HO
Thank you for that breakdown.
@DNTJ
I have a '66 F11 on the Vin which means 4x4, same color and same box. First year of front coil-sprung 4x pickups from Ford.
I like the swept-back rear wheel wells on these boxes. Very cool style lines unlike the "wrong-box" design which is trendy.
I purchased my '66 to be a chassis donor for a 4-door '66 cab I owned for 20-some years, which I eventually sold.
Some lucky chap will get my '66 some day when I get too old to babysit it and give it attention. Cool pickups.
Here is an interesting piece of info I found with my '66 F100 (Vin is F11 first digits): It has a Dana 60 rear w/ flanged axles and the standard Ford 5-on-5-1/2" bolt pattern. Maybe an optional rear axle ? @TA455HO ?
Now I'm gonna have to look at my Vin tag to see what axle designation the pickup has. hmmm
Geeze, when you get that engine fired up you'll be wanting an Overdrive 3-spd for interstate cruising.
I just picked up a Borg Warner R10-E overdrive, which were used on 3-speed trans on most makes of the late '50's full-size cars.
Your interior looks clean and tidy for starters which is a nice feature.

Share a picture of your warranty plate and I'll add it to my list of 1966 F100 4x4 trucks. Definitely a rare combo. Is yours short or long wheelbase?

The warranty tag is what you have pictured. There was no VIN in those days they just used the serial number. The serial number on the frame is the legal registration number. Some states care about that, and some don't. As long as your title matches that tag it's unlikely anyone will ever look at the frame stamp.
