An example, being a '76 it's worth a little more because of the FE engine. probably could buy it between 5-6k. this is pretty typical.

When talking of the VIN I meant what is on the warranty tag which matches the title. I did another inspection and other than all of the obvious rust I don’t see any cancer or bubbles other than one spot by the drivers door and possibly some on the underside of the bed. I didn’t rip out the carpet to see what the floorboards look like. I actually laughed out loud when I read about seeing if there’s any bondo - I’ve known the longest owner since high school and he has never ever done any kind of body work on any of his vehicles. You should see the 2010 Ford F-250 he’s driving now - what a disaster. He didn’t even fix my Chevy tailgate after tweaking it with a heavy load laying on the top. I’d let him borrow it for a day after he totaled his pulling a trailer that got out of control.

Anyway, it’s a divorced transfer case and it has Warn hubs. The photos I’m posting now show some of what was requested but one of the photos with the leaf springs shows what I suspect is power steering fluid all over. It came with factory air but getting that recharged would be an issue.

BTW you all might freak out when you see the red battery cable attached to the negative post like I did when I first saw it. I replaced the battery but not the cables and followed them to make sure that they are correct before I hooked them to the battery. And he’s not even colorblind.

In checking out Facebook and Craigslist almost everything listed has been at least partially restored and the prices are all over the place. I’ll probably put it on the market after I return from an upcoming trip, which will also give me time to transfer the title into my name.

Thanks everyone!!!

Are you guys sure it would be that low? I feel like she could get a good deal more than $4K. That said, I can't buy it.

Also, and IMPORTANTLY.....I'm FAR FAR FAR from an expert and couldn't have told you 1/6th of what others have in terms of the technical aspect of this truck. Ford-Trucks is loaded with some super experienced people. The numbers just sound low for a highboy in this market. At least if Ebay sales are to be believed.

You just KNOW a dealer would be able to flip it for a lot more with a few tweaks and a pressure washing. I would just like to see you get good money for it, especially given your heart is in the right place in thinking of your grandson. You are a good grandma!!! Good Luck.

I'm sticking with $5k. If I saw that truck local for $5k I couldn't get the money out of wallet fast enough. I believe its worth even more than $5k here in east.

Thanks JP250. I’m also planning on giving some of “the profit” to both the neighbor who sold it to me for the work I did as well as my friend who sold it to him so many years ago for $500. I don’t want them to feel they were taken advantage of because they didn’t know what they had. I also didn’t know what I had until just the other day. I just thought it was a cool truck that my grandson would learn a lot from working on. But neither of us would really have the money needed to restore it and this will be his first vehicle. I can just see him getting into trouble thinking he knows how to side-hill in our Idaho mountains. Whatever I have left over will go to a different car or truck for him as his first beater.

Thumbs up

Well good on you for being the decent sort! I'm sure it will work out. As Jason pointed out, here "out East" at the price of $5K or so, you'd have people lining up and some scuffles as people fought each other to pay you!!!

What I failed to mention (because I stupidly didn't think of it...is transport costs). That is right now as high as $2,400 if it's a non-runner...or maybe $1,700 if it runs. Both of those quotes would be for open carriage, at retail, not for someone with connections.

So obviously, the final pricing would reflect that. It's a great looking rig, despite the problems.

In the Northwest it'll never bring 5k. well, never say never but highly unlikely.

Good for you on the payback. But years ago (depending on just how long) that $500 was really not out of line. All of this high-price hysteria is much more recent. But only the best get those super high prices. The quotes between 2500 and 5,000 are not out of line for the condition it looks like. Especially if it has not been driven in awhile. It's still a project in the making, so whoever keeps it is going to have a LOT of work to do to bring it back to a fun vehicle to drive.
