I made my own back in the day out of a garden sprayer for less than $30 in parts if you want to go cheap on this.
I guess you could just drill a hole in a garden sprayer and run a really tight hose through it to the bottom and get another brake reservoir cap and do the same. It would be a lot cheaper and would accomplish the same goal
Anyone who has suffered with an inept "helper" while bleeding brakes certainly would love to have one of those kits! With my ex, I learned never to ask her help before getting an extra container and tubing... some people just can't figure out bleeding brakes or towing with a rope!
FTN talked me in to one of these power bleeders and it was well worth the price of admission for me. Luckily, I only need two different caps for our four vehicles and was able to accomplish bleeding the truck and Subaru in a very short amount of time with no screwing it up or outside assistance.
There is a purchase price, but my time is valuable as well and if I can accomplish a task quicker and easier then I will buy in if I can afford it. I used to use a MightyVac hand pump, but this is much better.
Definitely not required, but nice to have at times.
I've never had the pleasure of driving an Excursion.
Incidentally, I had a vacation with many members of the family from the wife’s side visiting where we did a road trip through NY state and New England. I managed to rent an Excursion. It was a V10 gasser though. They were very impressed by the barn doors in the back.
