Aftermarket Universal Joint fit issue and fix
I ran across a fitment issue with an aftermarket Dana universal joint for my 1949 Ford F1 that I purchased from one of the online restoration supply sites. I thought I’d share my solution to the problem.
I’m sure others have noticed that the aftermarket products are not as deep in the middle as the original Spicer joints and bind up when used on the transmission output yolk. I did a rather simple fix that took care of the problem.
Here is the comparison image
I took a ball peen hammer and generously put a healthy divot in the middle of the yolk and then took an impact socket and smacked it a few times with a BFH to further provide clearance
Problem solved!
