Home Built Bed Rail 3 Person & Cargo Camper Build
Hi everyone,
I built this camper a couple of years ago and thought I'd share some photos.
I wanted a slide in camper that preserved as much cargo capacity as possible, had a large loading hatch, but could also be used as a camper for three people. This is what I came up with.
I still need to make some improvements such as adding an aluminum skin over the wood exterior. If it was exposed to the elements 365, it would not last long because the exterior is plywood covered with marine paint. It is stored in my garage whenever not in use, so it hasn't been a problem.
I'll probably source the aluminum and install it in the next 6 months.
Above - nearly finished.
Below - after taking a bunch of measurements and many sketches, I cut the two sides out of plywood. Note that the plywood you see will actually be an interior wall. Through research I discovered it's easier to build them inside out.
I sloped the roof and notched the roof trusses into the sides.

I take the trailer and the truck camper. The trailer is for me and the family, and the truck camper is my guest house. It sure beats tenting it in August for my guests!
All the railings fold down, and are held up with hitch pins.

The air conditioner sits on a tray on 500 LB full extension drawer slides, so to deploy the AC you just open the hatch, slide it out and turn it on.
The bunk beds are all on an e-track system. I can remove them in about 15 minutes.
