Oil change 2015 F550 NEW TO ME

Hi All,

I just picked up a SD F500 2015.

9k miles

I'm a weekend gear head and pretty confident under the hood...but have always been on the Chevy side... so first ford for me! (dont hate me lol)

Anyways... never done oil change on a SD F550... before i dig into it are there any tips or tricks or xtra points to inspect or grease?

Id rather hear from you than have to learn by mistakes!

Just looking for input... any help or advise appreciated!!

thx all!

I am not sure about your particular engine, but yesterday I changed the oil on my 7.3 myself.
It was only the second time I did it myself in 20 years. I did not have an oil filter wrench that fit nicely on the oversize Motorcraft FL- 1995.
So check your filter size first. Also I did read after my oil change that some people pre-fill the oil filter. I did not, but wish i had for wear and tear's sake.

Look at manual for actual oil specification and quantity.

If any member can comment on proper size oil filter wrench for all engine applications, that would be great!
Thank you , and hope this helps mtnbkr738, and others.

Well, need a little more info. Gas or diesel, 4X4?

an oil change is pretty strait forward. If it is a diesel, drain the pan first, then put the pan under the filter. Either back off the filter a few turns, or take a screw driver and punch a little hole in the bottom to let it drain first.......unless you like it messy.

If its a 4X4, the front axles U joints at the wheel have grease fittings.

Diesel? Big pan that holds at least 4 gallons.
Drain sump.
Poke a hole in the bottom of the filter with a screwdriver.and let it drain.
R&R filter, checking for a stuck o ring on the block.. Some say install dry, some fill first. I fill. Lube gasket on new filter.
Replace drain plug. Fill with 13 quarts of approved oil from the list. Start, idle, check for leaks. Check level, reset oil minder.
Roll on for another 5-7 thousand.
Ford List

Gas?
Same but smaller pan.

Use Motorcraft brand oil and filter of the weight for your climate. Unless its on the extreme of things in north america use whatever it says on the cap.

Check transmission fluid when at operating temperature. Drain your oil and filter when warm as well.

Check rear diff fluid, check driveline for grease points. Usually would be sealed but on that rig it may be custom.

Google how to reset your oil light.
