For sure! I think (at least in my case) I am asking/watching what others time lines are to be able to gauge/temper my expectations. Changing dealerships wasn't really an option for me... (my son is a sales manager at this one), but they seem to push enough super duties to get allocations too.

We will see!

Agreed but it doesn't make it any less "fun" or "interesting" to do so.
It certainly doesn't make the individual uneducated on the process or the vehicle they have chosen to purchase.

yeah this is exactly why I ask. We have the camper, but no truck yet - so it helps to know if i should be making reservations for the beginning of the season or not.

We are in the exact same place! I have made some reservations (not starting until June). I can cancel them if needed, but with an order date of 1/25 I am hoping I can get it by the end of May. Who knows! We will play it by ear!

I am truly happy for you.

But, this kills me. 12/27/20 order date. I have nothing at nearly 7 weeks; not even a VIN.

I know, I'm whining . . . .

This happened to me - call your dealer! Other commenters please correct me if I'm wrong - but I was led to believe that the delay prior to getting a VIN is due to dealer's allocation. It was suggested to me that dealers may have the ability to do some work behind-the-scenes to get more allocation. In my case I was told 8-12 weeks by my dealer, but at 7 weeks when I had literally no progress I decided I could no longer wait (given that I needed the truck for early May). I called other dealers to get quotes and called mine one more time, and sure enough within a couple of hours I had a VIN. I certainly can't say for sure that is what happened (could have been coincidence), but I figure it can't hurt.

100% agree with this. Based on experiences I read here, you have to bug the dealer if they are not communicating. Being that I gave them 1k down for the order so that I can eventually spend 80k on a truck when it arrives, I would expect they would want to least provide weekly updates if they were a good salesperson. But I think once they have your order the thought process is your locked in so why do more.
In my case I txt my salesman and asked for update on VIN as I am concerned if it will arrive in time for a big trip we have planned. Specially when I read the chip shortage is hitting F150s now. Told the salesman I may need to change my thinking on purchasing if delays are going to occur. He responded with the Vin number plus production date
So my advice is if you haven't pinged your salesperson then try it and see if they can get Vin number. Once you have that you can rely less on the salesperson and see your trucks progression. 7 weeks is a long time for a whole lot of nothing. Specially if you gave them some money already. If you have talked to your salesperson and they still have nothing, then others might have more advice here on how to proceed. I got lucky I feel but it might have to do with priorities and such. I still don't completely understand the priorities and how they work but I was Priority 10.

In my situation, i ordered from the dealer ive done the most business with over the years. Sadly, I educated myself on the process after i placed my order. After 4 weeks of no vin from my salesman, i went with my gut feeling and called the other big dealer in the area who obviously does more super duty sales. He told me that he could place my order on Monday or Tuesday of this week and I would have a Vin number by Wednesday. He came through 100%. I canceled my order with the original dealer and got my $500 deposit back. This dealer didnt even want a deposit and wanted to give me a better price than the first dealer. This new dealer put it in on tuesday as a priority 10 and we got the vin on weds. Tentative build week of 3/8/2021. I pisses me off that the first dealer was stringing me along for so long, when if i had gone with the second dealer a while back, id prob have the truck by the end of feb🤦🏻‍♂️.

Update from my original post

VIN#: 1FT8W4DT2MEDxxxxx
Order Date: 01.12.2021
Processed: 01.14.21
Model: F-450 Lariat
Cab: CC Carbonized Gray
Engine: 6.7 Diesel
State: IL
VIN created: 01.15.21
Window Sticker: N/A
Production Date: 02.10.21
ETA to Dealer 2.22.21
based on Tracking by the Ford tracker the truck has been built and should be here in 10 days. That's just over 5 weeks from order to delivery. I'm quite pleased considering the dealer told me 6-8 weeks
