The AC Clutch on my 1988 F150 351W wont engage. It will if I jumper directly to the battery, but there is no power going to the plug on the regular harness. I have checked the in cab switch, and it is fine. Is this controlled by a relay? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Your system could be low. There is a low pressure cut off switch on your accumalator.

 

Fords are bad about leaking freon. I converted my Mustang over to R134A, as it is cheaper to refill. The low pressure switch will not allow the compressor to engage to prevent damage(?). Does it cycle at all if on defrost setting?

 

try jumping the low pressure switch. it is connected to the dryer on the passenger side by the ac/ heat unit.
i agree that if you are leaking freon, it is a good time to convert. just do it right.
