351m water pump help

I need help on my 351m I wasn’t the one that took apart the motor so I have no idea what it was like before but I ordered a water pump and it came with two gaskets one gasket fits on the timing cover and the another on fits on the back of the water pump so is there supposed to be a plate between? And where does the alternator and power steering bracket mounts to?

Is the front plate not there? If you can't see the timing set, then the cover is there, and you only need the water pump gasket.

Thank you for clearing that up! And do you know where the alternator and power steering mount goes? Does it bolt to the water pump

It's dark right now, so I can't take a good pic. But your alternator will go on the passenger side. Power steering pump on the driver's side.

This pic might help for the alternator.

It's from this thread:

Another view of alternator bracket. Note the spacer between alternator and cylinder head. And the curved adjustment arm at the bottom. Now look at the right side of the water pump. See the two unused bolt holes on the far right? That's where the power steering pump bracket bolts go.

Power steering pump and bracket. You can see how those two bolts attach. Note the spacer between the bracket and the cylinder head.

Thanks, Celtic!

77ford250, It's too bad the guy that disassembled that, didn't do it in a more organized manner. You probably noticed all my bolts are numbered. I always take several photographs, and bag and mark things as I disassemble. And especially for the front dress, I draw a diagram with numbers that correspond to the bolt numbers. I hope you're not having too much trouble with all those different length bolts. And if you haven't figured it out already, some of those bolts go into the water jacket. You need to use some sealant on those threads, or you'll likely have leaks.

351m help

I have a 351 modified and I found out I don’t have a timing pointer so I was wondering if I need one? I still need to check my harmonic balancer for marks

Post moved, this is the best place for your question. You already have your explanation of your issues here and this forum deals with these engines all the time. Good luck.

Should be the same for your motor.

Yes, you need one. Check eBay for used pointer. T Meyer has a fancy schmancy billet pointer. It’ll eat most of a hundred dollar bill, but it’s better than nothing.

I seem to remember that a couple of those bolts only get a bite into the timing cover and they strip out (the cover) very easily. Hope the phe pros can chime in, because my piece of cardboard that is my water pump bolt lay out pattern, is not handy at the moment.
