Radio Upgrade

I just recently purchased a 2017 F-350 XLT. It has the 4.2 radio display. I’m wanting to upgrade to the 8” display. Is this possible? And what all would I need in order to do this?
sorry if this is a basic question but I come from the OBS era.

They sell plug-n-play kits for the 4.2" to 8" radio upgrade at infotainment.com and 4D Tech.com, however they are a little expensive. You can also DIY the upgrade. I did mine about a year ago for around $600 with everything. You just have to source a few things from E-bay and learn how to use Forscan. Not that hard if you want to save some money. Also search on the F-150 Forum section. They have a few good write-ups that really helped me out.

I'd like HD in my xl. There are plenty of radios (e.g. at Crutchfield) that would satisfy me and cost <$200. One piece of baggage that comes from the SD not using standard DIN openings is that the fit kit costs more than the radio. I don't have it in me to spend >$400 for a radio that costs <$200. I don't want HD that much.

Yes, it can be done but going with an aftermarket radio would be a better and cheaper option.

Picked up a 2019 f350 XL edition 2 months ago and it had the stock 4" AM/FM radio. I upgraded to a Kenwood DMX907S for $650, Then I had to get a new dash trim piece $190. Then the tuner for Sirius, Then the Maestro interface, then the Data link Maestro harness, then the Scoche Aux+USB mount plus labor. Out the door for $1,464. Never as easy as it seems. Good luck. By the way love the unit seems a good fit.

We can help you with the upgrade as well as get you a replacement radio. We are a dealer for infotainment and can get you info on them. Or check these out as well.

I have an unused 12" radio upgrade for '17-'19 F-250 & up truck as I upgraded to a '22 model before getting around to installing it. I will include the center speaker/package tray. It includes NAV system. The radio is NIB. I'll part with it on the cheap as the box is gathering dust.

I do still have this radio. I forgot about it. My father passed away in July and I've been taking care of family matters.
