For me, yes that was a serious PITA. I am glad I went that extra bit. My clutch parts finally came in on Monday. Today my DC parts finally came in as well. I wasnt even sure if they shipped them yet since I never got an e-mail from them saying they were shipped. Whatever, Im just glad they are here. Hopefully I will have time to get the engine and tranny back in the truck this weekend. Time to start making some progress.

Didnt get much done. I did get the transmission sealed up with new gaskets and front/rear seal. Got it cleaned up and painted.

The old dog leash came in handy again. Just need to screw my new backup light switch in and put the identification tag back on it.

I painted the bottom of the engine the other day. I have to pull the intake and heads but I will do that once its in the truck.

Tried getting engine and trans all in the frame today but fell short. I put the bell housing on the trans first. Had to get new bolts for that. I found the trans bolts later, they were on the bracket mounted to the back of engine for the engine stand.

Once i got the clutch all on, I mounted the transmission to the motor.

Theres that old dog leash again with tranny hanging off it. Thats how I put them together.

Then I ran out of reach and couldnt get it in there. Tomorrow I am going to pull front passenger wheel and come over the side and get it done. I might set the cab back on it as well.

I got the bell housing past the towers, barely. Pulled it back out of there and set it down for the night. I picked up the torque wrenches and left everything else where it was. I was done for the day. There is always tomorrow.

I have a question, did you replace that trans? I do not see the mount for the 4x4 shifter.

No, this is still the T18 that was swapped in when I got it. It had a homemade bracket on it to carry the shifter. The old bracket is on the workbench. Im going to make another, slightly heavier though. The old one would probably last a while but rather start with a new one.

Ok, makes sense now. My T18 came out of a two wheel drive and I drilled the holes in the tail housing for the original shifter.

Fe390pc, do you have a pic of where you drilled the bolt holes on your T18. Im just curious to see how others had fixed this issue. The bracket I am planning on making uses the top two holes on the tail housing.

This is a pic from when I pulled it out of the truck

I will get pictures later. It was pretty simple, just set the bracket on the tail housing center on the rib. Drilled those top two holes then did a side hole. Between the bracket and the housing you will need to make a shim but it was easy with hand tools. But you will need to take the tail housing off to do it.

Here is what I did.

You can see the three bolts I added.

I will try and get some better pics uploaded tonight.
