Yes that too. That might work well. I was thinking of something like that, something very low abrasive to clean the injector ports/bore with. They are not pretty.

Im wondering how pitted they will be when I get them cleaned out...

This is #6, the one that had the injector that would not come out.

Good thinking... get me one while you’re at it! Are they good, running?

I don't know about the others but he will know if they were running when he parked them where they are sitting. Mine started up right away after I got a battery in it and some fresh gas. Tanks had a hole drilled in them. WWhen I go check them out I'll take a socket and bar to see if they are free, they've been sitting awhile now. at least 8 years I think..

Cheers,
Scrape off all the heaviest stuff, then hose it down with something like Purple Power, Simple Green or the like, scrub it with a stiff brush. Once you've got all the real heavy stuff off, Get a five gallon bucket full of good hot water, or take it in the house and do it in the sink (Or do what I do, and sneak it into the dishwasher), and give it another good scrubbing. There's nothing in that manifold, since you've pulled all the injectors and sensors, that is going to get hurt by water. I usually just pitch them in the oven about 170F for 30 minutes or so after the final rinse, to make sure I get all the water out.

Thank you Faulken, I don’t have water right now in the shop, or a garden hose, too cold yet. Be another month or so before I can get the shop water going again.

Spoke to my machinist, he said no problem. Short soak, little bead blasting, and he can get it cleaned up and “Sparkle like new again”. I dropped it off this morning and hopefully I’ll have it back in a day or two. Done.

Here’s a pic for Torqta. New balancer. ATP if I remember correct. I took my silver marker and filled in the timing marks, wiped off the excess. Looks good. The old one had a few cracks, and a little rust here and there.

Looks real good. I need to pull the balancer off my 300 and paint it up like that so I can see the darn marks.

Last time I had to set the timing was a little over three years ago after replacing the cam and heads. I just wire brushed the balancer and marked where 12° is with a Wite-Out pen. Having a new balancer would have been nice.

Hey guys,

I received my lifters yesterday, opened them up this morning, I’m not happy at all with them. They are going back. I’d rather use my old lifters than these.

Not the best pictures, my phone camera doesn’t like to zoom in too close.

The edges beside the rollers were not machined very nicely, at all. Jagged edges, flaking metal... I didn’t measure, but I’d swear on one of them the jagged edges stick out past the lifters diameter. They are also slightly longer overall than the stock lifters. I didn’t measure.

2 of the 16 would not roll smoothly. They would jam up, and had to be backed up to get them to roll.

Melling JB2205

The little spec below the lifter on the bench is a piece I picked off one of the lifters edges beside the roller.

I’ll have to read up on who makes good lifters. I see Ford performance has a set - PN. M-6500-R302, or comp cam, sealed power, Mahle....

Disappointing.

EDIT. A Melling quality rep saw this thread, and actually got in touch with me. He says they are going to be inspecting the lifters for this. Interesting that this little project thread would filter back to a manufacturer. Good to hear. Thank you for reaching out and letting us know it’s being looked at in the future.

I have a set from Comp Cam on my '94. The machining on mine look FAR better than those melling units. I would also trust the FoMoCo units.

Wow, Those are awful. I'd be returning them too. I'd go FoMoCo, or get ahold of somebody like Comp or Howards.
