T-5 Manual Transmission

I have read where people have used the T-5 5 speed overdrive transmission in their trucks and other hotrods. I have a World Class T-5 out of an early 90's Mustang and planned on using it but I know the shifter location is a little far back and is very close to the seat when using a bench seat. I recently saw a T-5 out of a 2005-2010 V6 Mustang that appears to be much shorter and looks like it would bolt up to the bell housing I have for the 351W.

Has anyone used one of these transmissions in a build?

Also, in the 2005-2010 mustang the shifter does not bolt to the top of the transmission, it is remotely placed behind the transmission. Can the top plat be removed and adapted to use a shifter bolted to the top of the transmission? If so, I think this would be the ideal setup as it looks like the shifter would still come up through the trans cover in the floorboard.

Thanks for any inputs on this setup!
Jeff

If everything is in good usable shape with your existing T5, see if you can locate a Chevy S10 tail housing. The shifter is moved forward a good bit.

Thanks ZSK, I actually have 2 World Class T-5's from mustangs and a T-5 from an S-10 for that very reason. I just thought the speedometer gear moving would be a pain and saw the 2005-2010 transmission on marketplace so I thought I would ask about that one.

48 Steel,
Did your transmission have the shifter linkage coming out of the rear of where your shifter is mounted? Did you have to do any modification in order to mount the shifter on top of it?

Thanks!

There is no linkage to connect.

In my 54 F100 I used a T-5 from a 91 Mustang on a 5.0 from a 98 Explorer that was previously an automatic. I used the bell housing that came with the transmission and a Tilton hydraulic clutch.
I was going to find a S10 tail piece to get the shifter forward. Before I bought the engine and in anticipation of how things might fit, I removed the bench seat and installed bucket seats and a console
that sits a little behind the front of the seats because I didn't know exactly how the shifter would fit. As it turned out, everything fit pretty good with the shifter in the stock position. If you are keeping
the bench seat, then a S10 tail piece would be best.
