They are not cheap! You either want it or you like the look of painted metal.

It is different in that it is stitched vinyl on fiberglass rather that molded vinyl. Looks good though, and price is better.

when I was redoing the interior I tried to buy the expensive original pad from Dennis Carpenter. No luck...they were out and not sure when they would get more. Tried a few other places and still no luck. Switched my sights to the TMI pad and watched the CJ Pony parts video and almost pulled the plug, but decided not to. Looks like good quality and the price is right but it just looked a bit too modern to me and the look I was going for. I ended up having the dash painted two-tone, which gave it the old school look I was going for.

The Black looks great Vandy23! I hadn't thought of doing that. Mine came back from the painter and I had every intention of covering it with a pad. But the paint looked so nice I couldn't get myself to put glue all over it and put the over priced pad on it.

T1956bird, yours looks great as well! I just like the two-tone look! What color is the top of your dash and where did you get the white radio **** inserts? Is that an original radio?

A new pad never entered my plan, my '65 was all metal and when I got the '66 I was disappointed so the plan was painted metal from the start, now if I could only pick a color.

Vandy,
Thanks. The color on the top of the dash is body color. Light Beige (Color code "H).
As for the radio, it is the original that I was able to fix with the help from this forum. The white insert ***** are original.

yes I too like the painted metal dash. The metal is part of the beauty of these classics. In fact I rebuilt a regular cab cluster and replaced the cracked and marred plastic custom that came on my truck.

I love to see pics of everyones hard work. Sweet trucks one and all

send pics if you have them. I am a big fan of the regular cab cluster compared to the plastic custom cab cluster. That might be in my future when I get the rest of the truck squared away.
