Purchased 2009 F250 Lariat, 4x works without plow, does not work with new plow on (pops out) how to fix? Suggestions?

 

Should have no correlation; what happens if you manually lock the hubs?

what exactly is popping out - the switch in the cab is going back to 2wd?

 

We can manually lock the hubs with the plow on and the 4x will not work. If the plow is off, the 4x works. Checking with the driver on your second question. He told me the tries to plow with the truck and it "pops out" of 4x. Thank you for your response.

 

I can guess that a bearing is bad possibly...

 

may want to check it yourself just in case the driver is inexperienced and doesn’t really know.

Put it in 4hi, raise the plow, and drive slowly on dry pavement doing easy turns to see if you feel the front wheels binding (which means the 4wd is engaged).

 

4x4 on the floor?

Maybe a tranny/motor mount is done and its rocking enough to knock it out?
