thank you! With good prep and practice I’m sure yours will turn out great! What type of product are you thinking of using? Single stage or base/clear?

I just read through your Merc build thread. Tremendous metal work on that cab! I’m looking forward to following along with your build, I love the merc pickups.

Had to improvise to get the bed off the frame. It took 4 of us to install it and nobody was around this weekend. Needed to remove it before it gets really cold. Plus I would like to sell this frame before it gets too much rain on it.

Used the cherry picker with straps attached to eye bolts. Worked well and was easy to drop in on to the dolly.

Also drained the fuel tank and removed it so I can install in the other chassis.

Thank you! I just like working on old trucks, it’s my meditation after a long work week.

For sure! How many things do we come up with as a workaround because we don’t have the tools, people, or space to do things the best way??

Progress update

I am waiting on a back ordered c6 from TCI for my 390. I need it so I can get everything lined up and weld in my engine mounts. Trans should be here early December.

Also, the rear end needs new axles so I can fit my Wilwood rear disc kit. As I went to work tearing it down the retainer bolt for the center pin sheared off. Apparently it is a common occurrence with the 8.8 and Yukon makes an extraction kit. That is on order.

While I wait for all of that fun stuff I decided to tackle the door glass. I’m doing the single piece conversion. Pics to follow.

The kit requires some wrestling to get everything lined up and in the right places. Some painters tape helped keep the glass out of the way while I installed the regulator. They recommend powdered graphite on the seals and it makes the window go up and down much smoother.

Turned out nice, it is slightly green tinted and not as dark as it looks in photo. Also installed door handle and mirror.

I don’t have much of an update other than the engine being mostly back together after swapping out the timing set, oil pump, and pan. Still waiting on some rocker shaft parts.

I was sitting at my workbench and can see most of my deconstructed truck. Even the bed and front clip out in the driveway. Crazy that I was driving it in august!

The window looks great! Your paint looks nice too.I'm undecided on which type glass to use on mine. The factory green tint, or the dark stuff available today. Tint is a must here in Arizona.
Thanks for sharing your pictures,
Ken.

Thank you! I intended to go with clear glass but I inadvertently ordered 2 kits from two different suppliers. One was green tint and I really liked the look of it.

Nice job, I got some powdered graphite off ebay for cheap. It looked like some old stock from a old hardware store or something, It does work good.
