Way too general. Demand calls for Ford's trucks and SUVs and not Ford's cars. There is plenty of demand for cars. I'd wager that the demand for cars is much, much larger than for trucks. So, this isn't as simple as demand. This has a lot to do with segmentation, brand, channel, [perceived] quality, and a host of other factors. All of the traditional marketing 4 Ps come into play. Ford cannot compete in the car segment ... not because there's no demand for cars, but because there's no demand for Ford's cars. That's a much more complex position than the one you advanced.

Yep, Toyota sells a bunch of Camrys and Corollas, Honda a lot of Accords and Civics, and so on.

For example, the black 2017 F-550 Crew Cab 4x2 84"CA 203" WB window sticker that @1olddogtwo posted shows Safety Canopy Air Bags as standard included safety equipment, whereas the virtually identical black 2019 F-550 Crew Cab 4x2 84"CA 203" WB in the photo below does not even have Safety Canopy Air Bags as an option. What do you suppose the cost of those perimeter side curtain airbags is? Whatever it was, is now additional profit for Ford, because the price didn't go down when Ford thrifted out the costs of the Safety Canopy. The price still went up. The MSRP for the '19 XL below (and detailed in the green border Monroni posted earlier above was over $58,000).

Per the order guide, side airbags, canopy airbags and dual front airbags are standard on the 2019 350/450/550 chassis cabs. The side and canopy airbags can be deleted with option code 556 and passenger front airbag plus the side/canopy airbags can be deleted with option code 557. Both of those options (556/557) were removed for MY2020.

I'm guessing that if personal leasing and/or long finance went away, the prices of all vehicles would suddenly have a much lower starting point - the manufacturers would have produce lower-content models because non-business customers wouldn't be able to afford a $50k F250 etc.

My father-in-law bought a Mazda 323 back in 1991 (I think) because Mazda put a stripped-out model on the dealer showroom floors to get buyers in, and the salesdroids could then up-sell the customers to a higher-spec model. My F-I-L wasn't having that - he got the stripped model (standard transmission, manual steering, manual windows, no stereo, manual mirrors, manual locks - the only option he got added was an antenna lol) and he still has that car now (used it for fishing trips before his stroke).

I love my truck. It came with crank windows but the PO or the dealership I purchased it from added an aftermarket power window package. I added cruise control. I have no regrets I like to see what I can live without. The next truck will at least come with cruise, power doors/locks, and a backup camera. I think I got a great value so still no complaints. This thread helps me to find out what to look for.

Lots of good looking XL trucks in this thread.

I'm thinking of replacing my old 7.3 PSD with a 7.3 gas. Current truck is cab and chassis and I plan to go cab/chassis again.

Looking at the 2020 Chassis Cab Order Guide, I notice this in the first column (XL trucks) on page 2:

What the heck? XL trucks come standard with "FordPass Connect 4G"?

As was mentioned by another poster above, I do not need or want Mother Ford riding along with me.

I note that the paragraph below states that "Ford Telematics" (Big Brother monitoring serice!) and Data Services Prep is included for Fleet Only.

This will be a personal truck.

Is "FordPass Connect 4G" part of the Data Services Prep???

The day that a bare bones work truck comes standard with GPS tracking is the day I quit buying new trucks.

That day has already arrived.

Ford has previously announced that all Ford vehicles sold in North America, including all trucks, will have 4G LTE modems as STANDARD equipment.

Ford is adding 4G LTE to all its vehicles, just in time

As an executive at International whispered to me almost 20 years ago, while the 6.0L prototype motors were being tested... "you better hang on to that 7.3". (diesel).

Yeah. Thinking more and more about doing just that.

To misquote Senator Sam Ervin and use an almost never used word, “Did you think that the Ford Motor Corporation is an eleemosynary institution?”

4G service isn’t free. Ford may bundle the "service" for some months but then you’ll need to pay for the “service”. To quote Nancy Reagan "Just say no".

Eleemosynary.... the only word found on a truck forum that requires a dictionary to understand.
  • Of, relating to, or dependent on charity. synonym: benevolent.
  • Of or pertaining to alms; derived from or provided by charity; charitable: as, an eleemosynary fund; an eleemosynary hospital.
  • Relating to charitable donations; intended for the distribution of alms, or for the use and management of donations and bequests, whether for the subsistence of the poor or for the conferring of any gratuitous benefit.

I said "No" to Chevy....to Dodge....LOL
I'm of the opinion that the XL trim is the best value in the truck market today. Value may be subjective to personal taste but dollar for dollar the XL trim is hard to beat when you look at the bottom line.
Yeah, I'm biased since it's what I have but I just can't see paying the crazy prices from 40k on up to 80k. Buying used won't be much of a value since the price of used trucks seems to be close to that of the new trucks.
Anyhow, get what is good for you then you won't second guess the purchase later. I'd get the 7.3 gas if I were buying today.

I was on the hunt for a truck for my new truck camper earlier this year. My '02 Silverado 1500 did not have the payload by a long shot.

I knew trucks were priced in the stratosphere in my opinion so I didn't even bother looking at new for a while. Was searching for the Oxford white work truck under 50k miles or so.

Built the F-350 XL on the Ford website and figured what the heck, for 15k or so more I get my exact payload configuration and brand new. Mine priced out at 43k. Would have been under 40k if I had given up the 4x4 option. I was very surprised you can still get roll up windows in a new vehicle these days. I did allow myself power windows and cruise control.

My story is exactly the same. Thought that new trucks were all priced way, way out of the realm on common sense to buy as a work truck. So I was looking for used trucks around 25k (stripped 2017 or newer). Built a few on Fords site and saw the msrp around 40k. Thought it was prolly worth it to pay the 15k extra to get what I wanted. Went with 2x4 and with all rebates and PCO got the truck for 34k, around 38k out the door.

I never would have believed that a Super Duty could be had for that money if I didn’t see it myself.
