New F350 Truck - Fuel tank question

Hi Friends,
Bought a new truck Memorial day, 2018 F350SC, DRW, Diesel, XL Trim. Just what I was looking for. Had the dealer install spray in bed liner, running boards and 5th wheel/ Gooseneck hitch. Was looking under the truck at the work performed and noticed what looks like drain plugs with a loop handle in the bottom of the fuel tank. If it is a drain it looks like a disaster waiting to happen, could easily catch on say corn stalk stubble or short brush when boondocking. Any ideas?

Photos of the truck, 5er and old truck as well as the plugs follow

Drain plug with a handy hand hold?

When I removed the tank of my '09 F350 many years ago to install a Titan, that tank had similar handles. So I guess they've been around a long time and I've never heard of a problem.

Hello Larry I don't know anything about the gas tank. But I do love the 95 in the back ground. I have a 96 about the same color, my oldest stopped driving with app 260k. Also have some good friends with a fifthwheel by GD. Love the new ride. Enjoy many miles on the road. Garry

A drain plug, what great idea. Bad fuel....no problem. I gotta go and check for one on my truck. Thanks for the pics.

Larry, those aren't drain plugs. They are simply handles to make moving the tank around easier if it is out of the truck. If that loop handle caught on something, it would rip off with no damage to the tank.

Troverman, Thanks for the information about the handles. I was thinking the worst case and thought about some kind of skid plate to cover them.

Raven17,
I bought the 95 brand new and sure will hate to see it go, but no room to store, not enough use, insurance costs.... It will be for sale soon.

Nice rigs. I too replaced my 95 crew-cab dually with an 18 super-cab dually. Going to have a hard time selling my OBS.
