Transmission rebuild in process; looking for a new top cover for an NP435, to get rid of shifter slop. If anyone has one that they'd like to sell, or knows of a source - chime in

I've driven a few of them, they all have a bit of slop in them.... Are you sure it is bad? Maybe Novak adapters has one?

I saw a thread a bit ago about someone messing with the shifter or pins to tighten it up.

 

Are you sure it's the cover causing the slop? The 1-2 & 3-4 shift forks have nylon bushings (7C430 in pic) on them. When these crack apart/disintegrate, the shift lever has slop.

Another common problem: The shift lever retainer cap (7220 in pic) has two notches, it's retained to the tower with two pins.

To remove this cap, it must be pressed down by hand and held down while turning it counter clockwise to remove it.

People unaware use pliers or channel locks to remove it, which tears out one or both of the notches. Not pleasant!
