I have an AOD from an 87 Mercury car but I`d have to get the driveshaft shortened again. For as much as I`ll be driving it I don`t think I`ll bother. I have no idea what shape the AOD is in and the C4 is a lot cheaper to rebuild.

I've got a good C6 sitting in my shop that was in my pickup before I put the AOD in it..

I had a C6 in my 69 F100 Custom, I`ve heard that they take a bit more power than a C4 but they can handle a lot more power.

You won`t use the 223? They do run for ever but don`t have a lot of power.

If I were to get it running I'd think about using it if I could find a different transmission to go behind it..

I think your choices are quit limited there, 3 sp, granny 4 sp or an auto which you certainly wouldn`t want.

The older carburated engines are getting harder to find but the newer ones have roller cams which is good too.

Would probably be as cheap buying a crate engine as it would having the machine work done on one pulled from an old high mileage vehicle..

Unless you can find a good running 302 like I did for my resto mod, you just can`t beat free.
