What Programer/Tuner do you recommend?
Am picking up another truck tomorrow...older guy doesn't need it and I do...06 F-250 115k miles 6.0....I already own a 05....am wondering what programmer or tuner you recommend....all I plan to do is install a cold air intake and a 4" exhaust.....upgrade the dash radio.

For a tuner I run the SCT with tunes from
Powerstroke Diesel Performance Tuning
This will allow you to turn off the EGR system or
if you delete it kill the light that will pop up on the
later years.
The reason for the native response to adding an intake is the
air that the engine used is already drawn from in front of the
radiator. On top of that the stock filtering system can handle
the air flow requirements up to about 500HP. Lastly oils that
they put on the element and the leakage of fine dust are hard
on sensors and the turbo.
So all in all it's really just a sales gimmick to separate you from
your money in a fast way.

The 6.0 veterans here pretty much unanimously agree that the SCT tuners are the way to go, since there are plenty of custom tuning options for it. Gearhead makes great tunes for the 6.0, which also keep that EGR valve shut.
the stock intake IS a cold air intake that flows very well and filters very well. Unless you are doing a full build with bigger turbo and injectors, an aftermarket intake is a waste of money and will only shorten the life of your turbo and engine, due to slowly allowing dirt and dust past the intake. My current truck has one of the best filtering oiled intakes available (AFE proguard 7) and it still lets just a little bit of fine dust through. My 6.0 with the stock filter setup never had a trace of dust past the intake.

I use the SCT Tuner as well. I run the box tunes (pre-installed tunes) right now as I'm focused on other things to spend money on for this ride. I think I've read that 5 star has developed some really good tunes at $140 a pop. If you bundle a couple of tunes you'll get over half off for the 2nd tune or how ever many you want. That's the way I'll go. I TRY not to hot rod my truck so I'll go with economy and a towing tune. Hard to stay off the pedal though. These F250s sound awesome.
Good luck.
Good luck.
