Question auto hubs

my 86BII is fully automatic 4x4 if one of the hubs id shot and clicking really bad could the truck notice this and could that cause the 4x4 not to engage or is this just one of my problems
i noticed a clcking really bad on passenger side then i took hub from that side and put on drivers side and the sound changed sides
when i push the 4x4 button all it does is click in the dah no attempt further than that
how much voltage is supposed to be at the transfer case motor when trying to engage and how many wires should have power

TIA for any help

auto hubs

I dont know how much help this is going to help, but no the transfer case wont know anything about the hubs. Now on the case i would take the control module out and disconnect it and make sure that everything is actually making connections. When i converted my truck to 4wd and i installed my electronic case, everything engaged but then one of the connections came loose and then it would not come back out. If those connections are good check the connections down at the case itself. If that doesnt help there is a piece on the case that determines what gear the case is in and it could be sending out false information to the control module. If none of this helps you out email me back and ill try to help you out some more.

auto hubs

Many of the parts in the hubs are made of nylon plastic and are thin pieces to boot. All are prone to failure.

Your choices appear to be 1)rebuild your current hubs, 2) switch out the current hubs to manual locking hubs, which is what most people do. The second option will of course eliminate your automatic drive selection and means that you will have to get out and lock the hubs whenever you want to use four wheel drive.

I chose to rebuild mine and have had no problems since. You need to be hard core to run the manuals.
