Restoring 1979 F-150 Custom

Hello I am new to this website and the whole restoration world. I would love to just buy a new truck and work on that but this truck has sentimental value. I'll post later on about all of that but for right now, I am starting to work on the truck because it was supposed to be a Father/son build but money and time became an issue when my family first moved to Texas. Then my father ended up getting arrested last year and I want to restore the truck and surprise him when he gets out (which be a few years) . The thing is I know Jack ***** about cars so I know this is going to be hard and I want to get as much advice as possible from anyone. I know people that can help but I feel like this forum would be a great place for tips and what not. I will post pictures and everything for you guys soon. But my next post will be about getting the car Windows out. Thank you guys.

Yep - start with the red "Read First" threads at the top of the forum.

It'll feel like drinking from a fire hose but you will find lots of good info there.

What's up with the window?

So this is one of the doors I'm having trouble with right now. I read on another thread to unscrew the window, and the window regulator and from there it would be a piece of cake. Unfortunately for me it's not. I rolled the window down and tried getting the wing window out but I can't get the bar out. I have a picture of what is stopping me from pulling it out. Did I do something wrong or can someone help me out . Thank you.

The wing window will come out, you just have to tilt and turn it at the same time for that tab to come out of the door frame.

Did you take the 2 ? screws (952720-S) out on the edge of the door that are holding the short part of the wing in place? Then pull it up to that tab is close to the edge make sure it is in the middle of the window (where you rest you arm) and then rotate the assembly. You might have to spread the inner and out door skins just a bit with your fingers.

Thank you guys. I ended up getting it out. I ended up having to spread the inside a little bit. Now the next door should be a piece of cake.

In the diagram posted above you need to pop out part 21452 and 21456 from both sides.

Those are called anti rattle strips and yes those are just popped in place with v tabs all down the edge. Flat tip screwdriver and they should come right out.

I'd get this kit to overhaul the door when all the other work is done to the guts/regulator/glass ect..

Anti-rattle weatherstrips aka 'cat whiskers' aka Ford: door glass at belt weatherstrips:

Be aware that the left outer (21453) is different than the right outer (21452) and the left inner (21457) is different than the right inner (21456).

Parts catalog pic only shows the right sides.

So I didn't work on the truck yesterday but today I was able to take out all the weather strips and just pull the window right out. I will order that weather strip not soon. From what I can tell I gutted and took apart everything I could from the doors. If there is something else I need to do please let me know. Other than that, I am going to clean out the garage so you guys can see everything I have to work with.
