I don't think I've ever seen a 40 Ford with only one tail light.

53-56 panel trucks came with only a driver side as well. The pass side was an option. I had only heard of this until recently. I bought the block off for the panel

That's the way my panel came, left side taillight only. I've seen a lot of old cars and trucks like that..

I believe the '40 Standard only had one tail light except where two was required by law.

That's what I was told way back in the 60's, that the standard had one tail light and the Deluxe two.
