FICM Test

Ok, so my alternator took a **** today and I just replaced it. Anyhow, while the hood was up I decided to check the FICM, just for the hell of it and it isn't reading anything. I attached pictures with the key off and with the key on.

Is my FICM junk? I'm taking it would have to read voltage to even run or am I missing something?

DC not AC volts.
Form the photo it looks like you have the meter set on AC.

The image on the left side is ACV and the one on the right is DCV.

Was the key on? and was the ground connected to a good ground? Had a friend go through this just recently that knows how to test these and he had a brain fart moment, it can happen to any of use, just saying, just like the 1 I just had after I reread your post. Also verify that your meter is reading ~12+ volts at the battery, I had one that was fuse protected and it drove me crazy until I realized it wasn't reading voltage from anything, due to a blown fuse.

The ground was clamped to the negative terminal on the battery, which I verified multiple times by touching the lead to the positive terminal (12.78 volts).

The top picture of the meter is with the ignition in the off position. The second picture of the meter is with the ignition in the on position.

The 20 only should go to 20 VDC and not all the way
to 48VDC you ned to set it on the 200 VDC range.

The reason your getting the 1 . is the meter is protecting it's self
and is in over range mode.

+1 Sean is right on track here. Suggest changing the meter to the 200 setting. Also suggest taping off all but the very tip of the digital volt meter leads to avoid accidentally shorting out the leads to the case. See 17. Can I test my FICM to ensure that it is the culprit? for more information.
