Maybe something has changed? All I currently am finding is 49 state universal diesel cats.

Rather than online, try a local muffler shop. They will be able to steer you in the right direction I would hope.

I thought it was illegal to sell them to be reinstalled at all. They can only be scrapped

I just had MY 2006 smog checked in CA...
did not see him look at the CAT... but if you are stating that the CAT has to have some sort of CA sticker, keep your old CAT and its simply a visual on the 06's... so if it disintegrates inside and becomes hollow inside , its no problem....

Yes, for Cat's in California they have to have an identifiable number stamped into the body for the visual inspection. And yes, it is against the law for them to sell used Cats at salvage yards in California. BUT, I think IF it was a private party transfer and I installed it, how would they know it was used? They won't. I have talked to a muffler shop and the guy told me it HAS to be a CARB approved Cat for them to sell and install. So a 49 state Cat won't fly in California. I have a quote for a new one from Auto Nation Ford at 1100.00 and change. The local Ford dealer wants twice that amount. I could take it off and remove the internals to stop the rattle. And I have thought about that also. But then, I would be VW wouldn't I? LOL. B.

One thing and I don't know if it's true of not.
Wet the internals down so you don't get any
dust if you go ahead and gut it.

Also the catalyst is not like what is in a gasser.

But you might get a good price for the old one or not.

Anyone find a resource for a diesel 6.0L catalytic converter? I just bought an 03' Excursion from Florida and found they straight piped it. Need to get it smogged to get plates and thus need a Cat. Cannot find one anywhere.

On the bright side, you could save $725 going through that link.

HOLY #$@&! Those attic prices are up there also. Does anyone have one in the back fourty for less? I'd much rather get a take off than pay factory amount.

Umm, is the dust really that bad? When I gutted one I simple set one end in a trash bag and punched it through with a rock bar. Please tell me that I didn't breath in some methyl ethyl bad ssit.
