Finally got to try out the kayaks we got on sale last fall, had a blast! Salt Lick Creek COE Campground, on Cordell Hull Lake.

It's not as bad as it sounds, actually. The tent actually has a window air conditioner!
As nice as that sounds we'd probably just camp in our fiver near you!

We had perfect weather and clear skies for (naked eye) star gazing last week but some knuckle head had his camp-site lit up like a Buc-ee's gas station all night.

CoE sites are our favorite, excluding BLM/Forest Service boondocking.

Very nice. How do you transport the kayaks?

The timing was right so I sold my fiver, I owned it for 12 years and made 9 grand more than I paid for it ..... not everyone can say that 🤣

sold the decks and all.

There's a roof rack in the photo. I have a Grand Design Solitude that has 12'4" of rear underbelly storage. I have two 10ft Pelican kayaks from Costco under it.

Our bikes go on the back bumper of the fiver, and the kayaks go on the roof. We got short kayaks (8'-5" Lifetime "Hydros 85") to make sure we had clearance. Probably not the kayak you'd want for white water rapids, but plenty of fun for a couple of old farts on the lake. In case you're wondering, that's a Menabo "Delta" roof rack and generic cradles, about $275 all in. It won't hold as much weight as a Thule or Rhino, but another benefit of the Hydros kayaks is they only weigh 40 pounds each. I was skeptical when I bought the rack, but pleasantly surprised to find out it's made in Italy with good materials. The only thing I didn't like was the painted steel clips, so I glued some tool chest drawer liner to the underside of those to avoid scratches. Links as follows:

Thanks for the detailed post and especially the side picture. That’s very helpful. I could probably do the same on my SC with the 8’ bed. We would only be carrying one kayak for her.

I am recovering from another back operation last week and we are in between trailers. If I have a good recovery we will probably jump back in. Our last unit was a 2018 Rockwood and we were very happy with it.

Thanks,

Bob

Haven't been camping with it yet, we go next weekend for our first trip, but I can't wait! '23 F350 HO Diesel with a '21 Grand Design 280RS.

First time pulling since I converted to the Gen 3 20k Reese Goosebox. Between the shocks and air bags on the hitch to the air bags on the truck, it rode like a dream! I didn't expect my wife to notice a difference since she's so disconnected when it comes to those things, but she said she 100% could notice a difference.

Wish I had got a picture of everything clean. This pic was taken right before I detailed the whole rig and then of course it rained on the way to Gatlinburg.
