auto hubs wont stay locked

08 f350 hubs wont stay locked in when in auto position. everything stays locked while in manual and 4x4 works fine, but in auto the hubs wont stay locked while spinning. I was trying to find the problem when i noticed that one hub stayes locked all the time and the other locks and unlockes as it should but it wont stay locked while spinning. My question is do I have two bad hubs or is their a leak that wont let the hub stay locked? Also on the hub that wont unlock is this a leak problem as well or a internal problem?

Does your hvac default to defrost as well? Sounds to me like a vacumn leak. Until you get it cured just manually move the hubs to lock and then use the selector switch to put the transfer case in 4x4.

nope all vents work as they should. Is it possible cold weather and moisture had anything to do with it? Is their anyway to service the hubs on 08+ super dutys?

It has been cold. The cold will effect the way it works as well. I always advise to manually turn the hubs when it is real cold out. They will loose vacumn due to the as well as a leak.

Since your hvac does not go to defrost then I suspect it is just a cold weather issue.

You can take them apart and clean and regrease them but that is probably not your issue. If you have a warm place to work them by all means, every 60K or so the hubs should be taken apart and cleaned/regreased.

I would turn them both to the manual position and then just work the switch when you need 4x4.

Both hubs need to either be locked or unlocked.
